this app has a bizarre, completely unfamiliar and illogical interface that makes no sense, and comes with no documentation to boot. i'll try working with it a little longer to see if i can figure out why i should use this to search instead of JBidWatcher or simply searching on eBay, but at present the purpose of this application is not evident to me.

AuctionSieve Reviewauction sieve - essential for ebay regulars - Version: 1.8.6, 3/9/2007 04:05PM PST

this app helps me to keep track of products i'm interested in bidding on, and also obviously helps me find bargains. the filtering capability has saved me countless hours of searching and has helped me zero right in on a few products i've made money on.

if you are an ebay regular, there is no good reason why you shouldn't use this program - it works; it's free and is continually updated with additional features.

any problems i've had have been quickly resolved in communication with the developer - there's no way i'd be without this app.

I agree with Martin. This program is worth trying. You will love it. If you give it a chance it will become the only thing you'll use for your ebaying. It doesn't take long to learn it's features and even though they're simple they're powerful. But isn't simple what Mac is all about. Only time my version is slow is when it has to update an very heavy search with a lot of findings. Otherwise it's been running like clockwork for me. I'm on OS X vers 10.4.8. Thank you!

I gave this program a shot. I will never use it again. At first it looked ok. The GUI was a little slow as its a java app. But then I started using it. error after error. The GUI was hard to use and gave many errors

AuctionSieve ReviewBest ever version of a classic - Version: 1.8.0, 7/4/2006 02:26PM PST

Martin Turner--2008
There are two things that are brilliant about this application.
First, it's a fantastically useful way of finding what you want on ebay without looking at tonnes of other stuff (and, indeed, without having to float past all the scams and duds). I very rarely look at eBay by any other route than this application.

Second, the author keeps on updating it. There were other free utilities I used to use with eBay that were great for a while. But eBay keeps changing its specs, quite possibly to stop these utilities from working. AuctionSieve gets updated so often that it's never behind the times for more than a day.

This version is the best update ever -- as well as updating to keep up with eBay, the author has introduced time-saving features like multi-finding, and has generally upped the speed.

For those who are wondering how the author makes his money, it's by being part of the eBay affiliate program. This means that as long as people keep using AuctionSieve, he will keep earning, and, one assumes, will keep updating -- since he only earns if the program works. It's an extremely appropriate business model which doesn't cost the end user (ie, me) anything at all.

Fantastic

Program doesn't open when you click on it. It appears to be starting up then it just quits. I used to use Auctionsieve all the time but this new version won't work.

AuctionSieve ReviewOutstanding program if you use Ebay - Version: 1.7.8, 3/9/2006 08:00PM PST

This is a terrific program if you are an Ebay user. It's one of my favorites and I use it daily. The ability to do multiple searches at once saves a great amount of time. The ability to narrow your search by using various filters also saves time and produces specific results that you can't come close to getting with an Ebay search on it's own. The programmer is from Sydney, Australia, and is very prompt to upgrade his program to accommodate frequent changes made by Ebay. I highly recommend this program. If you take the time to learn to use this program properly, you won't be disappointed.

I use this to keep track of my eBay auctions and am lost without it. I don't even use it to its full potential, just for collecting auctions as I peruse them (don't use the sieves much). It has saved me hundreds of hours and made me a bundle of money. The Aussie author is very responsive to feature requests. If you use ebay, you need to use this program.

AuctionSieve ReviewIs this some kind of tricky adware? Judge by yourself. - Version: 1.7.7, 3/9/2006 05:59AM PST

I wonder why the programmer does not link directly to the auctions. All links are encoded and routed via

http://adfarm.mediaplex.com/ad/ck/711-1751-2978-71?

He also managed to block "right click" on the links to Ebay - why? Is he afraid someone will find out about his tricky concept?

I don't like people fooling me that way.

AuctionSieve Commentarywhich version? - Version: 1.7.7, 3/8/2006 12:55PM PST

afterhours
Installing over my earlier version for testing (v1.6), I launch the new version. The splash screen says v1.6.0. The About screen from the menu bar says v5.0. The Get Info window of the App mentioned the 'InstallAnywhere' version of 5.0. The Help menu within the application has an About item that states v1.6.0.

I try using the update feature... and it claims I'm still running v1.6.0 and need to download 1.7.7. Download it and... nothing appears to happen. :(

For grins, I relaunch the app and now the splash screen states v1.7.7 :). The Help:About screen concurs :)

Lesson: the internal updater worked great, but the standalone might befuddle users. Maybe there's been some smokin' going on at good ol' Hashbang :)

Beyond the update adventure, this is one of the best ebay utilities about. Simply fine piece of work.
