Since July '95, I've been quite satisfied with this product (AlchemyTV\DVR), despite a few wrinkles during setup - Power Mac G5\2.5 GHZ, 3GB w\Cinema Display.

Changing audio input in Audio/Sound Prefs has the same effect.
Probelm is new after ver.2.5 installation.

According to Activity Monitor, Alchemy sucks up 30% the cycles on my twin 1-GHz G4 running 10.4.5, so I close the TV window when I'm not watching TV. It drops down to 0% then. I would quit the app altogether, but it can be pickly about starting up when other apps have been running: it wants to be first after boot, so sometimes a reboot is necessary. I haven't done a clean install in years and my system is no doubt filled with junk, so the pickiness is probably my fault. Overall, the card and the app are a lot of fun and include an astonishing number of features for such a niche market.

What's New In 2.4.1?
2005.08.08
- Modified TVGuide.com integration to support the recent website changes. The Setup Assistant will now recognize your ZIP code correctly (US users only).
- Fixed bug in TitanTV plug-in that prevented .tvpi files to be loaded properly. If the TitanTV plug-in is greyed out in the Plug-ins settings, delete the application preference file.
- Fixed iCal plug-in to interact correctly with Mac OS X 10.4.2

I use it for months now primarily for recording (DVR part) and I had some strange problems with my TV reception which has nothing to do with Alchemy.
Other than saying "but we said that in 20th sentence of readme" etc, they even worked with electronics guys to give me a suggestion how to make reception good.
It turned out to be the TV technician split he cable tv/ cable internet wrong place.
I am a TV pro and we use AVID kind of stuff at workplace, this home product made me sure about what brand I should look for when I need pro devices whatever platform we use.
Keep up the good work.

My setup is:
G5 Dual 2GHz.
Living in China
I'm so thankful for the customer support that I wanted to post this before giving an acutal review of the product. Over the past few days, Miglia's tech support has helped me get this working. Miglia had me send them my console logs, and then told me what to do. They also sent me the beta version 2.4 for troubleshooting.
I was missing some of the system tools in my System folder that AlchemyTV needs. Miglia sent me the tools installer. Then, it turned out I didn't have Helveta font activated in Font Book. (by the way version 2.4 will change to default to the Courier font). Without the font enabled, the setup assistant didn't work.

Overall, a solid piece of software, good image quality. Here are some feature enhancements that would be very much appreciated, in order of value to me:
1. the ability to switch sound outputs from within AlchemyTV. As it is, if I'm getting sound output through my speakers and i want to switch to my headset, i have to exit AlchemyTV, the go to preferences, then go to sound, then switch the audio out setting, then re-launch AlchemyTV. pain in the ass.
2. HDTV support (1080i). My cable provider offers about 30 HD channel, and they're now all i watch on TV (including news).
3. 16:9 aspect ratio

this software works ok but a few improvements would be appreciated:
- 16:9 format support for better tv view on large cinema displays
- monitor sleep support (screen saver too) when a scheduled recording starts (my cinema display wakes up every time and goes to sleep once the recording ends - not so good for extended recs!)
- enhanced localization (e.g. italian...)

may i ask how Alchemy works in Leopard?
Any problems or crashes?
TIA
