AirPort Monitor Utility ReviewAn Airport Profiler - Version: 1.1.2, 5/13/2006 07:06AM PST

Wm. Cerniuk
What Apple should have under an advanced preference setting in the AirPort Admin Utility . Displays most all elements of the Airport's network interface in straight forward list boxes. Can monitor multiple airports simultaneously and show a multitude of stats such as retransmits and signal to noise ratio.

What would be nice to see is an interface that:
• Allows changes to TTL values, etc. if possible
• Shows signal to noise ratio graphs over time (like the Mac OS 8 Apple utility did)
• Provides the ability to put range alarms on Airport variables
• Shows the connected users and allows interaction with IPNetMonitorX to analyze those users (or any IP address that this utility displays)
• Has ability to save data in some fashion like the Apple System Profiler
• Provides more information on stats (data rates are in Mb/s?)

Overall, nicely done and very useful utility for interrogating an Airport and showing us what we paid for in the device.

AirPort Monitor Utility ReviewProvides excellent info - Version: 1.1.1, 5/9/2006 02:53PM PST

This provides the type of info that Apple's Airport Management Utility should provide. I really like being able to see the nitty-gritty details. I especially like being able to see what type of device is associated with each connected MAC address right from the monitoring screen, e.g. "wds" for the other node in my WDS network. I only have a couple of issues with it:
  1. When the network login dialog comes up, it defaults to saving passwords in the keychain (via a checkbox on the dialog), which is bad from a security standpoint.
  2. The window for the base station information stays open after a failed login attempt. This had me thinking that the program was seriously buggy until I realized that I was entering the wrong password.

the universal version is very speedy and has never crashed on me...

very handy for checking the AP data on the fly and to monitor who's connected and the signal strength.
