Product Description:

Carbon copies. And a whole lot more.
SuperDuper is the most advanced, yet easy to use disk copying program available for OS X. It can, of course, make a straight copy, or "clone" -- useful when you want to move all your data from one machine to another, or do a simple backup. In moments, you can completely duplicate your boot drive to another drive, partition, or image file.

Clones, though, don't work very well when it's time to recover from an unexpected system disaster - like a bad driver or OS update. Unless you take specific steps, restoring a drive image restores everything on the drive, overwriting both the system and user files. If that's what you want to do, great. But it's usually not, since all the work you've done since the backup would be lost!

Clones for safety.
To ensure you can safely roll back a system after the unexpected occurs, SuperDuper doesn't stop there.

With a few clicks, you can easily "checkpoint" your system, preserving your computer's critical applications and files while you run on a working, bootable copy. If anything goes wrong, just reboot to the original. When you do, your current Documents, Music, Pictures -- even iSync data -- are available! You can get back to work immediately!

Clones for industry!
SuperDuper has enough features to satisfy the advanced user, too. Its simple-but-powerful Copy Script feature allows complete control of exactly what files get copied, ignored, even aliased ("soft linked" for the Unix inclined) from one drive to another!

SuperDuper is perfect for software developers, software "seed" sites, QA testers, even system administrators.

What's new in this version:

We've been busy here at Shirt Pocket adding, fixing and refining, and 2.1.1 is the result! It's a Universal Binary, just like 2.1, but with extra baked-in goodness:
  • Now with AutoMount: scheduled copies will now automatically mount and unmount local volumes if the volume is not mounted when the copy starts. (Existing scheduled copies must be deleted and re-created to get the new behavior.)
  • SuperDuper no longer prompts to overwrite read/write images when they select an existing sparse image as the destination
  • Read/Write "Sparse" images are now the default image type when users select a new image as the destination
  • Resolved a problem that prevented locked-but-removed folders on the destination volume from being deleted (error 10000)
  • Fixed "Next copy" date prediction display problem
  • Volumes with "'" in their name no longer cause errors
  • Corrected rare, Intel-specific issue that caused folder creation failure in some situations
  • System "Extended attribute" memory diagnostics are no longer logged to the system log file
  • Added logging of certain Apple API exceptions if they are raised during copy
  • Worked around eSellerate library "Recovered Files" issue; changed SuperDuper! to install the library "just in time"
  • Improved image handling and ownership
  • Even faster!
Of course, the new SuperDuper 2.1 still improves on the acclaimed original in many ways, including:
  • The ability to easily schedule backups
  • Additional imaging options
  • More control over shutdown
  • Better AppleScript support
  • Hundreds of UI improvements
  • And a completely rewritten, task-based User's Guide.
And it's a free update for registered 1.x users!

Keep the feedback coming, and we hope you love the new version!

I emailed various questions to Shirt Pocket about this product (NAS compatibility etc.) and they were promptly answered in a round of back and forth emails, even though it was after 10:30PM. Thanks Dave! I've now purchased the product and am 100% pleased with it.

SuperDuper saved my gluteus maximus! Corrupted some files, probably boot sectors, on my iMac. Thus, it would not boot. Used my recent backup from an external 800 Firewire drive and copied the entire contents within a very short time. Hassle free, outstanding project for chump chance. Buy it!

SuperDuper! CommentarySuperDuper is a Super Timesaver - Version: 2.6.2, 10/28/2009 02:41PM PST

This morning my OS hard drive died. It seemed to be running fine until a restart. After a couple troubleshooting techniques failed, I decided to try booting with my OS back up [made with SuperDuper]. The start up went fine and I was then able to use two different disc utilities to confirm the worst case: drive failure [well, it’s better than logic board failure…].

I purchased and installed a replacement drive; booted from my OS clone; formatted the new drive; launched SuperDuper and copied the data onto it. I rebooted on completion and was up and running. [NOTE: Selecting "Restart from..." under 'On successful completion' in the General Options pane allows you to walk away and return to the newly copied OS up and running]. The entire process would theoretically have taken less than an hour if I had a spare [internal] drive handy. How's that for minimizing downtime?

Look, THINGS HAPPEN & HARDWARE FAILS; often without warning. MY ADVICE: GET SUPERDUPER, A PORTABLE HARD DRIVE [I prefer OWC's Mercury On-The-Go 2.5" drives], AND GIVE YOURSELF A SAFETY NET FOR A RAINY DAY. If you rely on your Mac for important endeavors, it makes no sense not to have a [current] bootable OS clone. All app updates are free and the support is superb as well. SuperDuper is well worth the $27.95 price tag, especially when you consider the value of your time.
