this is a supper cool program for anyone with a serious collection of books, dvds, or cds. I wish they would add somethinf simular to cddb so that is a book or movie is not in the database you can submit it to a centeral DB for other users in the future. I have a huge collection of older books that are not reconized automaticaly and my time is wasted because others can not take advantage of my custom cataloging, nor could I take advantage of the potential custom cataloging of others.
No problems.

I've used collection for some time now and it works great for me. The updates are easy to find in their support section under Intelliscanner and from other links on the site. I imported from other applications, scanned items and search on the net. Every time I got what I wanted and very fast.

You should bear in mind that this program (unlike readerware) yields no results when searching by UPC (whether typed or scanned) for UK products. You must search for each product individually by typing its title. Scanning works great for US products though.
Database is lacking

This is a great initial product. Scanning is effortless - very impressive. But database lacks flexibility. Addition of custom fields would help. Genre is a big hole, for example. Additionally. "search" is really just a filter on title of the asset. Really need to be able to search on any field in the data. Waiting for improvements.
Good, but can be better

This software (which comes with a USB UPC scanner) is very good, but has some serious feature holes. First the good: ease of use is incredible, the UI is mostly excellent, it looks beautiful, and unlike some of its competitors, it manages to fin a "hit" for almost everything I've thrown at it so far, even old and out of print books almost always comes up with information.
The downsides: No cancel button in the individual editing pane means if you mess something up, you are stuck with it, unless you want to delete the whole entry or manually correct it. Also, there is no easy way to sub-categorieze books by genre, and no way to change what criteria are shown in the main database window (you get author, title, and rating, and that's it). Also, things slow down a bit when you get a hige database...it woul dbe nice if there were ways to filter the database inline.
That said, this is a very solid 1.0.x release, and I expect most of my complaints will get addressed in future releases.
