Product Description:

This program brings back the Apple Menu to Mac OS X and includes also a complete application launcher. By adding one or more global menus to the right side of the menu bar you can easily access your preferred applications, folders (and subfolders), documents and files. Furthermore there's no explicit need for a configuration (e.g. creating lots of folders and aliases or adding items to user-defined setups) - just activate the menus you like. All menus and submenus update themselves automatically just like the good old Apple Menu so it's not necessary to refresh them manually. In addition, XMenu optionally displays small or large icons and follows aliases and symbolic links. Finally, please note that contrary to most other solutions, this is neither a hack ("haxie") nor an unofficial menu extra.

What's new in this version:

  • Support for Mac OS X 10.4.x "Tiger" (menu items can again be inserted to the right of menu extras)
  • Menu bar is immediately updated after quitting XMenu

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9
  • Mac OS X 10.3

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.3 or higher
  • Tiger compatible

I hadn't heard of XMenu until today, and already I'm hooked. Great little utility that brings back the power of Apple's OS 9 Application menu. I don't care how pretty the Dock looks, it's really not much of a productivity enhancement, and even worse I hate chasing a moving target with my cursor. I've created my own user defined XMenu and I'm pretty sure I won't be using the Dock as much anymore. The only think it doesn't do that the Application Menu did was indicate which applications are currently running. No biggee... But the price sure is right: free. You get a lot more than what you paid for with XMenu. Thanks!!!

XMenu CommentaryMiss the old icon - Version: 1.8.1, 2/3/2008 12:00AM PST

The latest version of XMenu is using the lame blue Applications folder icon from 10.5. I miss the plain old black & white icons from the last version. (this is the only colored icon that I have in my menu bar, so it looks out of place).
