This ScanGear CS Scanner Driver is compatible with existing iMac, G3,G4 & Apple's latest G5 systems equipped with built-in USB 1.1 or 2.0 ports. The ScanGear CS v7.1.3.3X Scanner Driver is for the CanoScan LiDE 50 scanners running on Mac OS X v10.1.3 or higher in "Native Mode" using CanoScan Toolbox v4.1.2.1X (CanoScanToolbox4121X.app.sit). This self-extracting scanner driver installer assists the user with a guided installation procedure through an intuitive interface.

Use the driver and toolbox software for the LIDE 35 to run the LIDE 50. They are the same scanner. The LIDE 35 was just updated for Leopard. It works as of OS X 10.5.2

Not that it's easy to find out anywhere, but the latest iterations of the Canon software for the LiDE 50 scanner are compatible with Intel Macs. The Canoscan software is still, of course, PPC, but since Canon has never released a TWAIN driver for the scanner, this is the only way to go without paying $50 for VueScan.

The scanner drivers are available from canonusa.com. The version listed above is NOT the most up-to-date driver.
