Jack OS X ReviewCannot uninstall - Version: 0.82, 5/18/2009 09:12AM PST

This application is too complicated for me, and now I can't uninstall it. Either the provided Uninstall file doesn't work, or I don't know how to use Terminal. In either case, Terminal refuses to accept input, so I can't input my password.

Now my Mac has trouble doing all sorts of things, and I can't restore it to working condition.

This seems to be a fine application, but it's not for simple Mac users like me.

This is an amazing utility for connecting audio applications. I can't believe that it exists at all, let alone that it's free.

Jack OS X ReviewBAD BAD BAD - Version: 0.74, 8/5/2006 04:34PM PST

I totally agree with the other comments. I don't think of myself as a "stupid" or "hard to learn" individual, but the documentation and guidance given with this software is incredibly BAD. I still haven't figured out how to get it to work, and like an earlier post, the pitful is in the connections manager doc. From that point on, nothing maps to my system.

Any ideas on a better resource for working through this product?

Jack OS X ReviewIncredibly useful, and powerful - Version: 0.74, 5/20/2006 01:25PM PST

I've had about an hour with this app, and I love it. The interface allows for control of input and output of various applications unserpassed by all others. The minimal style of the app makes it easy to leave in the background and not worry about, and once it is running as far as I know you can quit the application and it will still work fine.

My only complaint was that the app was a little gittery when configuring inputs and outputs of many apps, but much of this I blame on my comptuers age. For a G4 @ 450MHz running 10.4, this app is amazing. It tops out at about 8% CPU usage for more than a dozen chanels.

If you have any sort of audio recording, manipulation, or mixing at all, I would download this app. Even if you don't it is a nice thing to have.

This software is nothing short of brilliant. Just make sure to launch it before you launch your source and destination software. I suggest checking yes on the preferences for Auto-Connect with physical ports, Default Input and Default Output.

This blows away any other core audio hack out there. It's free and completely routable. I love that I can record into my choice of audio apps rather than the crappy recording options bundled with other apps that try to do this.

Perfect software!

This is an amazingly useful tool for all kinds of audio work. It turns your computer into a virtual patch panel. For example, I'm able to easily route audio from iTunes into my experimental patch in Max/MSP and hear the result. The developers acknowledge that other platforms which implement Jack have somewhat better interface design, but they say that this will be improved. Personally, I found the current interface to be extremely functional and very easy to learn. I guess I'll dock one star for that but if they had not said anything, who knows? 8^). The quality of the product is top notch, stability is excellent, and the documentation is extensive yet clear and easy to use, with several specific example patches.

Jack OS X ReviewHmmm... - Version: 0.71, 7/13/2005 11:34AM PST

I really like the idea and so forth, but I'm really somewhat lost. I am trying to patch some sound from a web page (flash animation) over to a recorder (Audio Record) and I am not able to get sounds to come out anywhere now. This is very interesting, but seems to be very difficult to get right, even after reading the instructions. Now, intelligence is definitely not lacking on my part (computer science background) so I'm thinking that some more work needs to be done with regards to the Connections Manager and so forth or give some very explicit instructions for Core Audio apps usage.

After installing the newest version (0.61), Cubase SX and Rax didn“t open at all. I had do deinstall Jack OSX and everything was fine afterwards. No problem with v0.51. There must be some bug with this version.
