You Control is a collection of 19 flexible menu utilities that allow you to create custom menus that extend the functionality and usability of your Macintosh. What's new in this version:

General

Fixed a bug on 10.5.6 that could lock up the system when using menu hot keys.
Fixed a bug that could cause menu hot keys to only work every other time.
Configuration window can now be resized horizontally
[New] Hot keys can now use the Option key on its own as the modifier
Assorted minor bug fixes

Network Monitor

Network Monitor now shows bandwidth percentages relative to observed maximum throughput, instead of theoretical throughput of the network interface.
General cleanup of menu layout

Calendar

Fixed time display for events created with the UTC time zone
Fixed configuration application to show the Undated To-Dos option

Clock

[New] Added option for setting the start of week for the calendars
General cleanup of the layout of the calendars

File System

Top-level File system entries in the menu now display the custom name set in the module

Tunes

[New] Holding down the Option key in while clicking on the controls in the menu bar will toggle the Ratings stars on and off.
[New] Added new option for larger images in the Overlay (XLARGE_IMAGE)
[New] Show Overlay menu command now toggles to Hide Overlay, so the same hot key can be used to both show and dismiss the overlay.
Fixed a bug that could cause iTunes to not hide properly when it is launched by the controller to play a track.
Fixed a bug that would cause changes made to the current track in iTunes to not be reflected in the overlay.
Updated black and white overlay
Fixed bad spacing on micro controller set

Fonts

Minor fixes for better compatibility when running Fonts module within You Control

I'm not sure why VT shows the version as 1.7.2, and the download as 1.7.1. I downloaded 1.7.2 from here a couple of days ago - but now they've got something going on.

I've been using You Control for a couple of years now. I find that, although it does use quite a bit of system resources, it doesn't seem to really affect my computer's performance. It's been stable, and easy to work with.

The modules are REALLY helpful. I use the Pasteboard and Hotkeys the most, but the navigation features, the calendar and address book, processes, monitoring - great to have in one convenient program. I don't use the RSS features, because long ago, I found it seemed to slow the system down some, and took up bandwidth. Otherwise, I've really found this to be a great investment.

I use this app a lot every day. With the Apple Menu crippled as an application launcher I use You Control's "File System" module to create an organized file list that allows me to navigate through all of my folders -- just like the original Apple Menu. I also use the clock / calendar module to show both date and time at a glance, something that apparently was beyond the capabilities of Apple's programmers. The Mail module allows me to quickly scan my email inbox without bringing Mail to the front. Overall, one of my favorite programs.
