NeoOffice is a fully-featured set of office applications (including word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, drawing, and database programs) for Mac OS X. Based on the OpenOffice.org office suite, NeoOffice incorporates dozens of native Mac features and can import, edit, and exchange files with other popular office programs such as Microsoft Office. Unlike the Mac OS X release of OpenOffice.org, NeoOffice does not require the X11 windowing system.

Released as free, open-source software under the GNU General Public License (GPL), NeoOffice is fully functional and stable enough for everyday use. The software is actively developed, and updates and improvements are available on a regular basis.

NeoOffice ReviewA MsOffice clone is still a MsOffice clone - Version: 2.2.4 patch 5, 9/1/2008 05:00PM PST

The problem is it is still not quite what it is attempting to copy and you have to ask the question is what it is trying to copy actually a good thing?

There is also the overall sluggishness and bloat to contend with.

Personally I have gone lean and mean with iText Express (free) and iText Pro '08 (US$15) both by the same author and amazingly tight, fast, versatile and friendly.

On a PowerPC G4, It seems to function fine. Word processing and spell checking works. No loop issue noted. This on a 593 page document. Excel documents open without issue.

Hard to beat that, even if it launches slower -- it isn't $400 :)

I'm happy.

'Couldn't find spell checker' and loop...
This happens when you open an existing .doc file and you have to force quit!

Unpredictably it seems to work.. aftrer another try done this way: you first ask the spell checker on a new document, THEN you open an existing one.
Well, not before to have had to wait and close many times the 'Spell checker not found' alert
NOW ou can appreciate that the borders are playing crazy and the text can't stay where awaited

Let us wait another patch!

By the way: spell catcher is in 'tools' and is almost unusable and for sure now 'mac-like'
