Product Description:

Googol is a calculator and search launcher for OS X that makes use of Google(TM)'s internet search engine and on-line calculator functionality.

With so many people with broadband connections, a calculator that does its calculations somewhere else doesn't seem that strange. I'm not sure if this is actually useful, but I don't think anyone else has made one of these before, so I thought I'd be first. Let me know if you do find it useful though.

What's new in this version:

This is not a useless application at all.

Where else can I say: the speed of light times two in inches per hour

and get: 8.49805393 * 10^13 inches per hour

This is definitely a keeper. Thanks!

First I have to state that I never actually got to use the product proper, since I am behind a University firewall and Googol understandably doesn't support proxies, but I have a feel for how it would work, and have a couple of suggestions:

  • Support Google's define: function for word definitions, the same way as calculations are supported
  • Implement WebCore, with an internal stylesheet, so searches can be displayed in their own panel. Launching Safari doesn't really make sense.

Googol could well become a killer product with a bit of time. Nice icon, by the way!
