If this little app is good enough for Jack Bower, it's dahm well good enough for me. To think that a sophisticated alert system used by the CTU is available to Mac users — almost for free! Well, I just can't think of one reason not to take full advantage of this perk. Downlaod it, install it — help fight the forces of darkness and evil, though as we now know, some of them have probably infiltrated the inner circles of the government and the very agencies that are supposed to protect us. Sigh. Well, that's beyond our power to change. Some things will just have to be left up to Jack. I rate this app 24 stars. Don't try to reply or contact me, I'll be going dark now. ************************

Our boys were tricked into dieing for their perverted goals, NOT for Iraqi Freedom.
Seems like 99% of those in Congress voting for the war have never served in the Military, and they make sure their kids get deferments from serving, also-while Joe sixpack's sons and daughters get sent over there to die in the midst of a Civil War-which they are loath to admit exists.

This has to be in the running for the most obscene application on any platform at any time.
And I can't get over how incompetent the author is: this is a 'menulet' that accesses a really simple URL online.

And from that URL gets back two lines of XML. Such as the following.

That's it. That's ALL it does. Now tell me why:
1. it takes nearly half a meg to download; and
2. the author thinks people should pay for this.
And tell me not only why but how.

Most of you trailer park Bourgeois who talk doo-doo about Socialism (1) have no idea what Socialism is; (2) have no idea how Socialism works; (3) Have never been to a socialist country aside Canada; (4) Have never had close or even casual friends living in Socialist countries; (5) Very mistakenly equate Socialism with Communism, which it is not. Not even close. In other words, you're like the 47% of the hick, unsophisticated, untravelled US masses who fatten themselves on McDonald's, never venture further from home than need be, and think any person or culture that's not "church-going" has something wrong with it. It'll be a sigh of relief to the planet when you and your chimps lose their voices this November...

i don't know what the intended effect of this app is supposed to be but...i think it is d**n funny. just as even the idea of a color-coded alert system is funny. i love this little thing. just as my radio tells me of some other machiavellian item this administration is posturing at least i can have a little laugh on one of their other triumphs!

This just astounds me every time there is an update that there are people who actually download this.
Would at least one of them PLEASE let us know the attraction of this app or the reason they feel compelled to download it, just for the sake of curiousity so the rest of us can maybe understand.

If you really, really, truly must have it, then try this first. I guarantee you will feel better:
1. paste the following into your Applescript script editor:
set the_command to "curl -s 'http://www.dhs.gov/dhspublic/getAdvisoryCondition' | grep CONDITION" set the_level to (word -1 of (do shell script the_command)) display dialog ("Terror Alert Level: " & the_level) buttons {"OK"} default button 1 with icon 2 giving up after 10
