Harmony Remote ReviewWorse than last version for me. - Version: 7.5.0, 9/13/2008 06:56AM PST

I've always struggled to like this software. Logitech make probably the best affordable all in one remotes in my opinion but their software stinks big time. Upon installing this latest update it told me there was an update for my sky+ box PVR so I downloaded it thinking it would make the functionality somewhat better. Not only were the settings much worse than what was previously available it removed all of the previous settings so I could not revert back. I'm now stuck with having to use my sky+ remote to control the thing as the Harmony remote doesn't control it at all now. I also now find that the software will not update the remote once i've changed the settings and i've used 2 different macs, 2 Windows PCs and the alternate web interface without any success.
I hope Logitech fix these issues fast by bringing out a new update otherwise I may consider selling my Harmony 1000 remote altogether. I've had it since it first came out and although the remote looks mighty fine it is dog slow and not intelligent at all. Don't get me wrong, I was willing to put up with it's many faults as the last version of this software was in my opinion about the best it has been so far, but this latest update has destroyed any credibility that the team behind this software may have earned from me.

Harmony Remote Usage TipIncompatible with Java 6 (64-bit) - Version: 7.5.0, 9/2/2008 11:05PM PST

For all of you that get a black screen when starting this app, the issue also happens with the previous version; at least to me.
This application uses Java and it's not compatible with Java 6 (64-bit for Intel Mac).
A workaround is to open Applications -> Utilities -> Java -> Java Preferences and make J2SE 5.0 the default Java VM for both applications and web pages.
I had other Java apps behave strangely on Java SE6. There are several changes on this release and older java apps might no longer work. This is a general issue with Java 6 and it's not specific to the Apple port.

Harmony Remote ReviewWhat's the fuss? - Version: 7.5.0, 8/27/2008 04:21AM PST

I'm as happy as anyone to moan and point out when something doesn't do what it is supposed to, but..... I downloaded the latest version onto my Intel mac running 10.5.4 and everything works fine! I couldn't be more pleased with the product or the software. If in doubt, try it.. it comes with an uninstaller.. and you can always revert to a backup so long as you have made one!
