Product Description:

NewsLetter is a free batch emailer, specially designed for newsletters. Its interface is very simple and intuitive, and it features the creation of plain text, HTML and multipart messages, customization of subject and body using "smart tags" and attachments (including inline attachments). Other features are output MBOX files (open-able in Mail, Entourage or any other capable email client), integration with FileMaker, Entourage and Address Book, and capability to send the messages through Entourage (or simply place the messages at its Outbox folder), appart from standalone SMTP delivery.

NewsLetter is powered by XMail.osax, so it is compatible with any smtp server (along with the mentioned features...)

What's new in this version:

  • Fixed issue with non-Entourage users.

Changes from 2.5:
  • Fixed issue with double-carriage-returns in plain text emails.
  • Changed email encoding to UTF-8 (read help docs for more info).
  • Updated documentation to reflect some important things.
  • Fixed minor bug with the progress bar.
  • Fixed minor UI bug with the attachments window.
  • Built as universal binary.
  • Extended filters for Entourage-import-addresses option.
  • Added SSL support and override port options (XMail upgrade) --> ie, gmail support.

NewsLetter ReviewUseful, reasonably easy to set up and it works - Version: 2.8, 3/8/2009 11:05PM PST

I did a small client management project recently and was asked "how do we send our newsletter in a more interesting way?". I though that HTML e-mails would be the go and found the "NewsLetter" app. Once you read the instructions it's not too hard to get going and the response from the business clients has been positive.
Lessons learnt:
1. keep the newsletter simple
2. use inline CSS
3. Make sure all your images are linked absolute and not relative. i.e. it should have the complete url http://www.xyz.com/_img/blah.jpg. If not, the images will display as broken links
4. there are still people with 800px wide screens so don't set fixed widths beyond 800px.
5. Give people a way to unsubscribe from the email newsletter.
This is a newsletter we sent by way of example http://www.lightningfasthomeloans.com.au/_newsletters/0902/index.html
