The Unread ReviewCompletely hangs my Macbook Pro - Version: 1.1, 3/30/2006 07:04AM PST

I've been using The Unread for a couple of years and really like it. Tried version 1.1 and it completely hangs my Macbook Pro requiring a hard power off to recover. Gave up on 1.1 and back to 1.01.

The Unread Troubleshooting ReportWork around for 1.1 bug - Version: 1.1, 9/2/2004 06:16PM PST

Brock McNuggets
Aha... was hoping for a fix from the author, but that does not seem to be the case. Still, easy work around for the 1.1 bug of resetting prefs... lock the pref file. To do that: go to your home directory, open your "Preferences" folder and Get Info on "com.schartworks.The_Unread.plist". Click the locked check box and all should be good.

Of course, if you want to make changes to your prefs, you will have to unlock this file... so make sure your prefs are how you want them before you lock it.

Has been working for me.

The Unread ReviewLove product, 1.1 is buggy - Version: 1.1, 8/29/2004 07:56AM PST

I have been using this for quite some time - absolutely love the product... but agree with others that 1.1 is buggy. Like the new features, do not like the fact that it loses what accounts it is supposed to be looking at whenever I log in.

Still, I look forward to 1.1.1 ... and hope these oddities can be worked out.

The Unread ReviewSilent support - Version: 1.1, 6/2/2004 04:09PM PST

Caused a problem resulting in my console log being written to every time the program interrogated the selected folders for unread messages. Sent an extract to the author and asked for some advice, Never received a response.

The Unread ReviewThanks for the warning! - Version: 1.1, 5/11/2004 03:53AM PST

The Unread 1.0.1 has been a fantastically usefull and totally reliable fixture on my menubar for months now. I couldn't live withou it (well, maybe I'd muddle through - with counselling!)

Fortunately I followed the advice when installing the 1.1 update and backed up the old version and it's prefs because the new one has some problems for me:

Every time I restart my Mac, TUR has lost all my mailboxes from the list in Preferences - it is completely empty. I have to quit and relaunch to get them back. Also, maybe as part of the same problem, the Preferences have reset to the defaults twice now without me asking it to.

Neadless to say I am now happily back with 1.0.1, working perfectly, while I wait to try 1.1.1

The Unread Reviewvery useful - Version: 1.1, 5/5/2004 01:07PM PST

After using The Unread for a few months, it has become an essential element of my interface. It is perfect for people who use Mail.app and have a lot of auto-filing rules. I have a move-to-folder rule for EVERY piece of incoming email, so Mail's icon never shows me the little red icon tattoo with the number of new emails on it. The Unread v1.1's cleaned up Preferences and helpful features are very welcome. It is not often that freeware/dontationware is so good that it inspires me to pay for it (which I did).

The Unread ReviewA Significant Development - Version: 1.1, 4/26/2004 11:02PM PST

The developer is to be commended for this release - it's where I had hoped the application was headed. Upgrading from v1.01, I found retaining the original prefs clashed with the new schema, so I would recommend trashing existing prefs before launching and configuring the new version. There is a PLEASE READ ME included with the download that upgraders should take heed of. Highly recommended utility for those of us with lots of email, mailboxes and not enough time to operate the Dock!
