Booxter ReviewExcellent App - Version: 2.1, 8/17/2009 02:29AM PST

I have used Booxter from the earliest version and still find it a joy to use. Being able to give iSight a mere sniff of the ISBN barcode and seeing it scurry off to get the book details makes a game out of entering a long list of books. I am impressed by how forgiving the recognition software is when reading the bar code under poor light and when a book is held in less than steady hands.

Booxter ReviewBest book catalog software - Version: 2.0.12, 7/15/2009 06:18AM PST

One year ago, I tried various book catalog software, including Delicious Library, and ended on Booxter. One of the main reason, as a Norwegian citizen, was the many non-US sources Booxter search through, including two Norwegian ones. I hope even more sources are added in the future, especially an African one like e.g. the National Library of South Africa.

Otherwise I find Booxter a very straight-to-the-bone app that does cataloging and just that. It's not an app you fall in love with at first sight, but an app you like better the more books you add. As my library grows, I really appreciate the many good browsing options Booxter includes, like the tag view where you can browse the books by genre, publisher, year, Dewey class, subject, etc. Many fields are available, but some are missing like e.g. "Original title". But then there is of course a notes-field to enter misc info. The smart list feature is also really useful.

One quite serious issue is the documentation, which is almost non-existent. This is not acceptable for an $50 app. There are so many features in Booxter, some of which are quite hidden, so good documentation would be really useful for new users. Also, I've not received replies to my two emails to the developer.

Booxter ReviewToo expensive for an unfinished application - Version: 2.0.11, 4/16/2009 10:23AM PST

I've tried this app for a day. At first glance it's impressive and easy to use, but it is sorely lacking a number of important functions, e.g. the inability to selecting a number of items and create a list from them (iTunes style).

In fact the whole "Book List" function seems....unfunctional. And there's no help section.

I created one extra list, just to try and see how it works, and it doesn't work. AND I can't delete that pesky list. It's going to there until the end of time.

This guy is asking for $49,99 (that's fifty bucks to you and me) for an application that isn't complete, and for which there is NO help of any kind. That's too much. Not worth it, at least not yet until the application has been tested a whole lot more.

Booxter ReviewMost necessary feature doesn't work - Version: 2.0.9, 7/11/2008 07:51PM PST

Tried to scan in three different books under multiple different lighting conditions at multiple ranges, and angles using the built-in isight for scanning – nothing. Launched Delicious Library, opened isight book scanner, haphazardly waved a book in front of the isight and immediately heard a beep on my first try. Info about the book downloaded immediately and I was done. Booxter was a waste of my time, thankfully not my money.

Booxter ReviewGreat piece of software - Version: 2.0.4, 11/19/2007 09:13AM PST

For years I kept track of the books I'd read in an Omnis/Studio database that I'd written. I kept looking for a piece of affordable software that would replace the custom library that I'd written. Booxter is it.

It keeps track of a lot more information than I had in my database and it grabs it all from the Net.

Keep it up !!

Booxter Commentary2.0.2 does the basics, there is hope that outstanding issues get fixed - Version: 2.0.2, 10/21/2007 06:17AM PST

Just upgraded to 2.0.2 which looks like a working start finally. Some issues remain (like Booxter not saving manually added cover pictures and not backfilling books with new (978...) ISBNs). But I'm positive that the developper will fix these issues as well, given the frequent updates since release of 2.0

Booxter Commentaryfurther troubles - Version: 2.0, 10/17/2007 12:27PM PST

It does not find all cover images, even if they are on amazon. adding them, then saving, exiting, and opening the library file again (which for some spurious reason now has a ~ attached to its name) ... the images are missing

DON'T BUY
