Product Description:

This update adds the ability to create high-resolution web-ready QTVR Object Movies from any JPEGs up to 1024x768. You can build movies from any series of images, even if they weren't created in iStill. Just drag them or their folder to the Object Builder window, then slide the thumbnails around to organize the frames of the movie. Use the realtime feedback controls to preview your object, and when you're ready, click the Build button. iStill does the rest! iStill is a powerful image capture tool for quickly grabbing high quality still frames from an iSight camera, webcam, or any DV camcorder. It features a number of realtime controls over image capture, keyboard shortcuts, and realtime hardware image sharpening. Additionally, iStill features a proprietary image filter that removes digital camera artifacts without sacrificing image quality, and an image capture technology called Deep Scan that allows you to capture a much higher resolution image than your camera is normally capable of. With iStill, your iSight camera, webcam or DV Camcorder can be used to capture text, take high quality still image photos, and now build QuickTimeVR Object Movies. A full-screen mode lets you use your iSight and iBook/PowerBook to see into hard-to-reach places, as a classroom overhead projector, or as a realtime magnifier with image capture. iStill is shareware, and costs $25 to register. You can evaluate it free indefinitely and decide if it lives up to its claims before you buy it. Upon registration, the annoying shareware reminder on launch, and the slightly embarrassing text in the QTVR Movies will go away. iStill requires Mac OS X 10.2 or later, QuickTime 6.4 or later, and is accelerated for AltiVec.

iStill ReviewWorks well, but zero (literally) support - Version: 1.2, 9/15/2008 10:34AM PST

tlmurray--2008
I've been using iStill to take close-up photos for a couple of years now, and functionally, it works well. The interface is a bit slow -- don't make adjustments too quickly! -- but workable. My big complaint is that the support is gone. Literally. I got quick response once right after I bought it, but e-mails sent every few months since 2006 have never been answered. (No, I have not had different issues every few months. I've been contacting him about the same UI suggestion and the same minor bug.)

Because it does work, and because there is nothing like it, I can recommend it. Just keep in mind you may never, ever obtain support.

iStill CommentaryAnother developer leaves uses in the lurch - Version: 1.2, 9/15/2008 10:27AM PST

tlmurray--2008
I first bought this in 2006, and about four hours after I contacted him with a problem, it was fixed. But that was the last I ever heard. I knew something was up: I told him that his web site has the versions mixed up (I have 1.3F, but the site says the latest is 1.2), and had included a minor bug and an interface suggestion, but I did not hear back. I have sent e-mails perhaps once every four to six months, and have never heard a peep.

And what just kills me is that there really isn't anything like it that I am aware of. It's a fine piece of software. It's a shame to let it die.

As much as I can't stand government interference in business, "there should be a law": If you abandon your software or drop it officially from production, the source code should move into open source.

I can, however, recommend it. It works. Just don't expect to get anything more, ever, from this developer.

iStill ReviewIT IS TOTALLY IRRITATING TO PAY FOR SOFTWARE THAT NEVER GETS UPDATED! - Version: 1.2, 3/18/2008 11:51PM PST

EndlessFx

Developers who charge for applications ($25.00, here) then let the application go UN-updated long enough for Apple to have started running Windows should be tarred and feathered, dropped off in the Arizona desert in late July - at least 72 miles from a human being - without access to motorized vehicle or dial tone!

Devastation could cause a developer not to care for his/her supporters but it seems this is becoming the latest rage! And I missed the postings where any of them were giving money back!

So, is that application working for me? Do I recommend it? ...DUH!

To top it all off, a good many vendors make paying users jump through all sorts of hoops to get and keep their registration codes in effect, but flip that script, and they think nothing obviously of having left those same supporters with little or no use of that application, say, since Leopard came along, and in some cases, even when Tiger growled.

I suppose "The Golden Rule" ain't!
