Why risk it? - Version: 1.0, 12/21/2003 06:15AM PST

I had to select "just installed" because there is no option for "Would never install."
I have an iBook with a fan that did not go on *enough* that has had 1 fried hard drive and 2 cooked logic boards. All were replaced under the original 1 year warranty.
I cannot imagine why someone would risk overheating their powerbook. The fan is your friend.

Incorrectly chowned files prevents the hack from working. - Version: 1.0, 12/21/2003 04:43AM PST

iDriveX, you chmodded the files wrong. They are chown root:wheel, but not chown -R root:wheel!
So, for users of this app, for it to work, run this command afterwards (or wait for iDriveX to update the app if you're not too terminal-savvy):
and you should be alright.
sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleADM103x.kext /System/Library/Extensions/AppleADT746x.kextand you should be alright.

Great! I tried to do this manually, but I missed a file. Thanks! But it really should backup the original files, and have an option to restore them. The way to implement this would be to include all four files in this installer, and offer two install options inside the installer. Also, I'd recommend making it only installable on system volumes.
Harmless and works as advertised

People, this thing is just an automated install script for a fan fix described here:
http://www.deleet.de/ray/pbfanfix.html
That is all.
It does NOT void your warranty, since all it does is revert two files to the state they were in in 10.3.1. This sets the temperature threshold for the fan on the first-version 12" Powerbook back to WHERE APPLE HAD IT SET FOR THE PAST ELEVEN MONTHS.
People have been complaining about the 12" Powerbooks getting too hot from day one. Apple finally responded in 10.3.2.
However, I, and many others, were very happy with the temperature, since the machine was SILENT 99% of the time - until 10.3.2.
Thanks for making the fix easy - and including a comprehensive Read Me!
