AudioTest ReviewExcellent tool for audio and recording engineers - Version: 1.12, 1/12/2008 01:14PM PST

kees11
AudioTest is a great tool to generate real-time test signals or to create test signal files. There's a large choice of sample rates and bit depths. Beware that the output isn't dithered (version 1.12), so at low (near LSB) signal levels some quantization distortion can appear. This is however negligible for 32 and 24 bit output. To generate 16 bit files it might be best to create a 32 bit file first and convert it to 16 bit with dither in another application.
AudioTest is very easy to use and very stable. The options for frequency sweep and level sweep are very useful, for example to test AD and DA converter performance, or to check low-level behavior of digital processors (dither e.g.).
On top of that the price is very attractive which makes this application a must have for audio professionals.

AudioTest CommentaryA handy utility - Version: 1.12, 1/12/2007 11:08PM PST

This is a handy utility for audio production students and professors. Sure beats using 'Slo'Tools if you'd like to generate various tones and see what they look like. I'm sure Steve Wozniak would have killed for this when designing his digital bluebox in the 70s.

I like it because it has pink noise, and I could use pink noise much more efficiently than white noise when setting levels and EQing.

AudioTest 1.2 now has output level meters which show calculated output levels in one of three ways; Peak, RMS (root-mean-square), and Average.

NOTE: the output level in AudioTest is a peak level, not an average level.

AudioTest Commentaryif CD/DVD isn't enough, go for this - Version: 0.3, 12/24/2003 11:59AM PST

pixim
easy to use, straight forward, and flexible.

your laptop becomes Audio Test CD/DVD. only difference is that this APP can go higher quality than the other two. using your ASIO driver(e.g. MOTU 896HD, etc) is also possible.

what a great tool!

One of the more complete simple tone generaters I've seen on System X....
Does what it's supposed to do.

Would probably be more usefull if it had tools for generating phase differences for testing surround sound speaker systems with Dolby Pro Logic decoding.
