AliasKeys ReviewFinally an OSX replacement for Connectix TURBOKEYS - Version: 1.1, 6/14/2007 12:18PM PST

mark_cairns
Well I've hunted high and low for a silent, unassuming piece of software that worked almost identically to Connectix brilliant "Turbokeys" from their OS9-only COPY AGENT software (just waiting on somebody writing an equivalent to their "Smart Replace" in Copy Agent now too).

Works really well, although I'd like it to be easier to assign the Hotkey for the application I want to launch whenever the Application is dragged and dropped onto the canvas. It should be asking for the hotkey combination there and then rather than leave it blank. It is a little clunky to then have to go and double-click on relevant column to enter the key combination. It works perfectly well yes, but could be a little slicker.

It would have been nice if Beniot had seen Turbokeys in the old days.

Anyway, I would give it 4.5/5 at the moment due to the above, but am feeling generous today and *do* realise it's only at v1.1 of its development so can forgive my little quibble. It's stable though (in OSX 10.49 on my Intel MacPro) so I've paid the $15 registration and am very happy with it.

AliasKeys Developer NoteRe: Memory - Version: 1.0.3, 5/25/2006 02:49PM PST

Benoit_Widemann_522
Well... right now on my Mac, AliasKeys Helper uses about 4 MB, while Safari uses 64 MB. I'm not sure of what happened on your machine, but AliasKeys is certainly not a resources gobbler.

Note that the virtual memory is, as its name implies, virtual. Any Cocoa application is bound to use around 150-200 MB of virtual memory. This is perfectly normal.

Sorry for the late reply. Afraid I don't visit VT often enough. :) BTW, AliasKeys works fine on Intel Macs, even if it's not yet native. Will be soon.

many of us really need, BUT not coded like this! The AliasKeyHelper App needs as much physical. and virtual.memory as safari!!
I cant waste that much memory for only this hotkey thread.

AliasKeys ReviewWell done! - Version: 1.0, 12/11/2003 08:50AM PST

Bingo!
HotApp currently can assign keys to a few more actions (like System Actions)... but AliasKeys seems to be more userfriendly and isn't a Preference Pane.
