This software does what it says. I have a Gustav Mahler CD which first worked fine and is physically damaged now. Impossible to listen to one of the tracks on any device even on computers. I gave CDrestore a try and now I have a good copy I can listen to on my HiFi. I also have some data CD which were cheap and don't work anymore, these are impossible to restore because of "bad blocks."

cdrestore 2 seems to have a very serious bug! i downloaded it to give it a go on a scratched mp3 cd that was made using itunes. i had the software running in trial mode. after i clicked the start button in cdrestore 2 it crashed, i tried again, and it crashed once again but it ALSO DELETED SEVERAL FILES FROM MY DESKTOP!!! i checked my firewall, no hacks were reported, they aren't in the trash, finder doesn't find them. i don't know how this could happen (i've got a 733mhz g4 running 10.3.4 btw), but what i know is that this must be ONE OF THE MOST ANNOYING BUGS EVER, as the files of course were rather important. oh, and the bug seems to leave folders untouched and only delete files.
checked with unerase and the files were really deleted, can't believe it, including a few important mp3s, pdfs, and other documents... but i could restore them... be prepared!

... it sits there on my screen and says "Please insert a disk". A CD is already inserted and mounted. I think "ok, maybe it needs to see me actually inserting the disk", so I eject and re-insert. Still says "Please insert a disk". I try another disk. No news. I try three other disks. Still wants me to insert a disk.
I'll keep on trying with all my other CDs to find out if it likes any of those! :-)
