DANGER! Bad instability and scans!

Epson scanner software for my new scanner, bought based on good experience with one of their photo printers, caused serious hangs, freezes, refusal to shut down, etc, for me. My advice -- either only install TWAIN driver and get third party scanner software BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING or else shop for a different brand of scanner in first place. (latest OS on G-4, mega ram)

I have an Epson 3170 and I was very happy with the version of this software that came with my scanner but this version is very bad. When scanning slides you now have to position all of the slides horizontally or else it will crop the sides. When scanning strips of negative it now has problems locating where each frame begins and ends. Also trying to import into Photoshop is causing Photoshop to crash and the scanner then stops responding (powering the scanner off and then back on fixes this). Also a few options and resolutions have been disabled for this model in this version. I love this model scanner and when I got it it had far more features and abilities than any other scanner in its price range but these new applications and drivers are terrible. This is something I would expect more from Lexmark than Epson.

Have been very happy with 3170 and Epson software until this "upgrade". When scanning slides, it will now stop scanning after the first slide and will not continue until you click in the "Progress" window. After that in will scan all the rest, but this is a major inconvenience. Also, why now hide the Image Adjustments?? They used to be out in the open without the pain of having to open a new window. Doesn't make sense to me. I can see no - absolutely no - improvements with this upgrade - only downsides. I finally uninstalled this fiasco and reinstalled my old driver which works great.
