This is just a Version 1.0 game. Given that, I like it. I already find myself drifting into its mindless activities more often than I should! There is usually something to smile at in it and it provides lightness when I want some. I think it is the Casino aspect of this game that Freeverse went for rather than getting the games perfect right now. I would hope that future versions would allow us to actually accept or buy the food or drinks offered by the hostess, maybe interact with her more. I would hope that we would get additional lounge acts. Great idea. I like the singing gorilla and the comedian, but want a lot more variety. The music (and perhaps other) volume needs an even lower setting option. Would be nice to pay back the loans or have some interaction with Fat Tony if we don't come up with the money, hopefully avoiding the broken kneecaps. It also has some other rough edges but, overall, I like this one. I know I am REALLY going to have a good time with Version 3.0! There is great potential here.

Burning Monkey Casino ReviewAll style, little substance - Version: 1.0, 12/11/2003 01:34AM PST

This seems to be a trend with freeverse... beautiful games that are short on substance.

BMC is brimming with beautiful graphics, cool music and slick presentation. The games themselves leave a lot to be desired however.

Take for instance the Blackjack. A cute monkey waitress asks you if you want a drink. Close to a dozen options on how you want to animate the cards. But there is no insurance option and no surrender option. There are lots of other missing things like an option for dealer to stand/hit on soft 17, a count how far you're into the shoe, etc.

Pretty useless if you're looking for a remotely accurate casino game on the Mac. If you're looking for an extremely watered down version of a few Vegas games to burn some time, BMC isn't bad.

Freeverse would be scarey if they spent as much time on gameplay as they do cramming monkeys and jokes into their software.

A couple of the games are fillers more than games (3 cards and scratch & win) but blackjack and poker are good games. Slots are not my idea of fun, but someone may like them. 2 out of 5 (or 2 out of 3 in my opinion) is decent.

Unfortunately when you go to register, it asks you to pay $5 for S&H. In other words, even though you can download a demo, I guess that they insist on shipping you a CD. Kind of a waste of time and resources for everyone involved. I guess that you also do not get to wait for the CD to show up in your mailbox before you can enjoy it. No registration for me then.

Good game though.
