Lost my complete La Cie FireWire Drive. 200 MB simply gone. WOW this is the best disk shredder on the world.

I'm stinky!!! I have data that has to be protected NOT lost. I looked around for a better tool and PGP seems to be similar. Finally I found Ghost Sphere Pro. This one is cheap and fits my needs perfectly. Upon request the maker told me that it does not modify any drivers and even the faults are pure Apple Technology. They can be backed up with ease. My experience with this new tool is only a couple of days and may not be enough to rate it.

CipherWorks CommentaryNo problems with Tiger 10.4.1 - Version: 2.0, 7/10/2005 01:31PM PST

CipherDisk works with Tiger 10.4.1 on my G5 DP 1.8 withot any problems. I've no idea, why Subrosa tells, CipherDisk 2 would not be ready for Tiger.
This software is very stable. Since I'm using CipherDisk, there was never a problem with this software or with my encrypted data.
My wish for next version: A GUI that looks more professional an Mac-like. Also, CipherDisk could be faster on start-up until password dialog is ready.

CipherWorks CommentaryNo problems, good support, NOT for 10.4 Tiger - Version: 2.0, 6/27/2005 08:06PM PST

Aside from an initial glitch in which Cipherdisk could not see my 140 GB LaCie drive (I partitioned), I've had no problems. I use a very long password, and do not have the problems previously noted by one reviewer. And when I had the LaCie drive problem, I got immediate answers.

One thing to note is that the current version, 2.0, is NOT compatible with 10.4 Tiger. If you move to Tiger, you won't see your disk until SubRosaSoft delivers a new version.

I just tried the demo, with a 500MB "Big Disk", OSX 10.3.9 (dual G4/500), blowfish encryption. Ran for a few days, completion bar go to the end but never completed, and now the disk... gone.

CipherWorks ReviewSo much promise and yet … - Version: 2.0, 3/14/2005 07:28AM PST

I so want to recommend this product. It has so much promise … and yet I cannot. It's easy to use, straight forward, etc., but encryption is only as good your key or password, hence I have a long password. Every time I tried to put my default password in CypherDisk crashed. I contacted SubRosaSoft they acknowledged my e.mail and said they would get back to me. I've gone bald in the interim. I use CypherDisk with an abridged password, my confidence in this product is not complete, for this price it damn well should be!!! If anyone from SubRosaSoft wants to contact me, huh, mail me at ysbryd@gmail.com

This App rocks!
the Version 2.0 has a few additions that made it easy to use and very secure.

1. It works now correct on my powerbook. Goes the PB in sleepmode,Cipherdisk hide the encrypted disk. On "wake up" automatic starts the Cipherdisk App with password question. That's easy to use, wow.

2. Now with AES128 and AES256 encryption, two very secure encryption standards.

It works very reliable and fast - no problems and easier to use as PGP (PGP and GPG can't encrypt complete partitions).

CipherWorks Commentarya little tips for a better use on Powerbooks... - Version: 1.0, 12/5/2003 05:32PM PST

When i wake up my Powerbook from sleepmode, all access on the Cipherdisk protected disks works! This is a little bit dangerous. It should unmount the protected disks + dialogbox with request for a new password entry.
And a nice feature would be a short keystroke for unmount all Cipherdisks.

CipherWorks ReviewGreat product, but it could be better - Version: 1.0, 12/5/2003 05:19PM PST

1. It works good, but .... the handling could be better. You MUST boot from another drive for encrypt or decrypt the drive. The problem: The software can´t unmount the partition of a drive from where you booted. Perhaps it´s a problem of the OS?

2. The Software can´t encrypt the bootdrive. I´m not lucky about that. I think, the most users have the most software installed on the bootdrive. What we need is a little bootstrap loader in the Bootsektors, like OpenFirmware, with password protection BEFORE the OS starts!

3. A little App for the Startup-Folder with a password dialog would be fine. Okay,i could start with the Cipherdisk.app, but i will not encrypt/decrypt every startup.
A little box with password dialog would be enough. Better would be to use the Startup-Userdialog of OSX to use for both, access authentication for Computer and Cipherdisks. It´s not userfriendly to type 2 passwords on every start of the computer.

4. The dialog boxes of Cipherdisk can´t handle the Return key. I must click on it.

So, i give you 3 stars for this nice program today. With the listed features above i would give 5 stars later...
