Product Description:

This application is for managing your DVD collection, with emphasis on ease of use and ease of entering titles. There is integrated Amazon searching and shopping cart, genre categorization and customizable filters, and choice of UI views.

What's new in this version:

  • This is primarily a stability release. There are no significant new features.
  • The database file (dvd.xml) has been replaced with dvdattache.data, which contains all of your DVD data. This change makes the application extremely stable to prevent data corruption.
  • Amazon Canada (.ca) support added, both Search and Add/Update.
  • Add/Update operations faster by about 20-40% depending on your connection speed and Amazon response time.
  • Quick Add database is much larger, with over 1,200 titles.
  • The Quick Add process is extremely fast and is the preferred way to add titles now.
  • Quick Add is now tabbed since the list has grown so long.
  • Data encoding set to ISO-8859-1 instead of UTF-8 (meaningful only to other XML nuts out there).
  • Region, Location and ASIN (Amazon ID) added to web template engine (see HOWTO).
  • The "Remove Rating" option fixed (for the 2nd time).
  • New report added -- Location. This report groups all titles by location and prints the list alphabetically. Good for printing index sheets if you store your DVDs in binders (as I do).
  • Location value added to the Alpha report.
  • Typing while the Alpha tab has focus now will jump to titles that begin with the letters typed.
  • Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

    • Mac OS X 10.3
    • Mac OS X 10.2
    • Mac OS X 10.1
    • Mac OS X 10.0

    Additional Requirements:

    • Java 1.3 or higher, 1.4 recommended

I've been using DVDAttache for a few months now, and love it. A very nice combination of just the right feature set, relatively easy to learn and use, a very responsive author, and you just can't beat the price.

I recently had a problem with some images not coming in properly during the Amazon search function. I emailed the author, and within a few days, this version - which fixes the problem - was made available.

Thanks to the author for a wonderful program, and for being so responsive.

DVDAttache looks like a promising application. Unfortunately, the icon bounces in the dock for a bit before failing to launch. I'm looking forward to future versions so that I can give it a try.

I'd love to see a barcode scan feature too!

DVDAttache ReviewNo Collection Import? - Version: 3.7.0, 7/6/2006 03:56PM PST

A promising application. There are some nice features not found in other DVD cataloging programs. However, the lack of any ability to import an existing collection en masse makes this useless for me. I am not going to manually add 400+ titles, even with the neat "Quick Add" feature.

Can't wait until this fundamental feature is added!
