InstallAnywhere Now! ReviewI had a… - Version: 4.5.2, 5/4/2002 01:58PM PST

lot of trouble getting this to do anything useful. I don't know if this is a limitation in the freeware version or something that is a factor in the entire InstallAnywhere suite (haven't tried the other products). The panels provided are confusing and don't really explain what is going on. It may be Java based, but a lot of the concepts presented in the installation seem to be very Windowsian and don't necessarily apply to the Macintosh - either Mac OS or Mac OS X. As to the items in the description, yeah, it looks like advertising copy rather than actual information - I've yet to see the "power", it certainly doesn't have "ease of use" compared to other installer builders I've tried, and "functionality" seems to be there in that it'll throw files on the computer, but doesn't seem to be all that smart or flexible about it.

comments of Mengoxon. I'm well aware of products like Tivoli which enable remote, LAN/WAN-based software distribution and deployment. But this product description reads like advertising copy--and worse yet, it doesn't really distill for the user precisely what this product does. Having said that, it's out of line for the person who calls himself Ol Bob to apply a rating to a program which (1) he has never bothered to try and (2) he doesn't understand in the first place.
