MAL Conduit Usage TipIncorrect name for conduit in instructions - Version: 1.0.4, 10/18/2008 10:27PM PST

ckuttner
The ReadMe says:

1. Copy the file "MAL Conduit" to /Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Conduits

---
Well, you can find that in the package contents for "MAL Conduit.bundle" but it won't do the job.
Just copy the MAL Conduit.bundle to the folder listed and you'll be a happy AvantGo user.

Thanks to Tom Brown for developing this great conduit.

MAL Conduit ReviewThis thing ROCKS! - Version: 1.0.4, 2/22/2008 05:45PM PST

AvantGo is a wonderful service for my Palm m505, which doesn't have WiFi. I was sad to see AvantGo doesn't support Mac OS X. However, they recommended MAL Conduit. And even being over three years old, it still works with the latest version of AvantGo. MAL Conduit was easy to install and use, and works right on every HotSync.

Tried to download the file but the website was unobtainable. Has www.maczipit.com gone out of business?

Can I download this file elsewhere?

MAL Conduit CommentaryThis software seems to have disappeared.... - Version: 1.0.4, 7/29/2006 11:30AM PST

I've used this software in the past with excellent results. Now that I have a different Palm pda, I have use for it again.

Unfortunately, the links aren't working. I'm going to rummage through my older machines to determine if I have a copy....

In the meantime, should anyone find a working link, it would be much appreciated if you'd post it.

I think you can message me through this page if you'd like. Much too good an application to have it disappear.....

MAL Conduit Commentarysharing my excelent results! - Version: 1.0.4, 7/9/2006 07:51AM PST

Just to share the good news of my success using MAL Conduit.
I've been using Avantgo since its very beginning I guess, with a Palm Vx(remember those black&white?), always on a PC, because there were not Mac versions, and I had avoided the third parties version for OS X, until I read a similar successful result here on this comments list, and decided to finally try it, and the results are excelent!!!
I have a Palm Zire 72 now, OS 5.2.8 and I have a PowerBook G4, 17", 1Ghz, 1Gb of RAM, OS 10.4.3.
Some comments to share my experience:
Follow the Installation Instructions on the Readme.txt!!!!!
I would have gone for the "Install the Mac version on the avantgo web download section, and these instructions recomend not to, but installing the wireless only.
The first time I hotsynced after installing this avantgo version, it showed avantgo connection during the process of hotsyncing, and at the end, this new version of avntgo was installed. When I opened, I didn't see my usual channels, but a welcoming one, then I went to "Edit Channel layout" at "Manage your channels" in Avantgo settings and clicked "Save". Made a second hotsync, and that's it.
Great!!! It works faster than my previous PC experience, but to be fair, I'm using hight speed now and I was using dial-up during my PC experience.

MAL Conduit Troubleshooting ReportMAL Conduit kills Hotsync - Version: 1.0.4, 12/14/2005 11:07AM PST

Seem to be having a new problem which has only recently manifested itself. I do a bluetooth sync from m500 to Powerbook and all is well but about half way through the MAL Sync conduit Hotsync just exits on the Powerbook and then it times out on the Palm. Total mystery to me as to why this suddenly has started happening as it was working fine before. The only thing that might have an impact that I could imagine is that I have recently changed my AG subscription. Anyone got any suggestions?

MAL Conduit ReviewWorks like a charm - Version: 1.0.4, 11/2/2005 04:51AM PST

Though a little slower than I would like, I was up and running right out of the gate. Even as I type this, my Tungsten E2 is on its third consecutive successful sync via Bluetooth with my Powerbook. Excellent work all the way around.

MAL Conduit ReviewPerfect Replacement for 1st Party AvantGo software - Version: 1.0.4, 9/10/2005 12:04AM PST

I was actually very skeptical about this conduit when I first looked at it. I was thinking "Hold on a second here, third party freeware trying to do something the first party won't support?" Having been a *NIX user for quite some time, I was perfectly aware that this possibly Alpha level application could be a very finicky little toy.

However, after installing the program and following instructions, I was quite pleased with MALConduit. I actually find it more impressive than the AvantGo client for Windows. Much slimmer, and far less intrusive.

The one thing that disapoints me is that there is no auto-install script. Coming from a Linux background, I have little fear of poking around in my computer's guts, but that doesn't mean your average user will. An AppleScript or Perl script would do the job just fine, but for now, the software is top notch. I guess they're following the *NIX mantra: "Do one thing, and do it well."
