Not safe as Shapeshifter but, if you got sick of Leopard's look, free alternative - Version: 2.5, 3/20/2009 01:56PM PST
Ilgaz
I saw this URL on another download site
http://magnifiqueapp.com/
It does what shapeshifter does in file overwriting (with backup of course) way.
IMHO Unsanity should have released a Leopard edition without APE exactly. Well, some people have done it.
Shapeshifter's method is still the safest and way more reliable. If you keep running Tiger, there is no reason to give up.
It seems we lost shapeshifter thanks to the anti ape trolls and jealous developers. Hopefully I will be proved wrong but it seems so...

Here are 4 apps I've found which have problems booting so you should add them to your Shapeshifter Exclude List:
Bittorrent
Minefield (Firefox 3.x beta)
Skitch
Toast Titanium 9

ok, in shapeshifter prefs there is an exclude pane, you can prevent shapeshifter from applying the current mods to certain apps before they're launched, so they're not affected. So I just added Minefield which is that unauthorized beta I told you about before, so I can still use FF3 while having the rest of my system modded by Shapeshifter.
My problem now is that I can't seem to add any more icontainers to Shapeshifter. It seems to add them, I see the text and progress bar at the bottom of the window, but then after it finishes, nothing is added to the icon sets menu. I've tried quitting, I've tried restoring system defaults before adding icontainers but I can't get it to add them and I was wondering what's up.
I thought maybe only some icontainer sets would be valid but every one i've tried, which is like 5 or 6, hasn't worked.
Now I'm deleting all the unnecessary ones thinking maybe SS has an upper storage limit.

workaround for firefox/minefield - Version: 2.5, 7/5/2008 02:57PM PST

There's like a beta release or something of updates to firefox 3.0 but for some reason with their GNPU (or whatever it's called, general users license) it's not allowed to be called Firefox and it can't have the same icon, but it's called Minefield and has a very close imitation of the icon you probably won't even notice the difference of once it's in your dock.
Reset your shapeshifter theme to the default apple set, launch Firefox 3.0/Minefield, then switch your theme with shapeshifter, problem solved. Then just don't quit your browser or else you'll have to downgrade to FF 2.0.x.

10.4 is fine for me, will it work? - Version: 2.5, 6/27/2008 04:41PM PST

I'm about to purchase a copy of shapeshifter, i have the latest 10.4 updates installed, I used to love using... god i can't believe i can't remember the names of the software that used to do it, but I'm gonna bite the bullet and buy a copy, but I wanna know if I'm gonna have any problems. I guess there's only one way to find out. I have several 'haxies' installed which work perfectly, windowshade and fruitmenu.
other things in my SysPrefs<Other are adobe version cue, app enhancer (reqed for haxies), Deja Vu (toast), DivX (?) Finderpop, wow i forgot about that, Flip4Mac, GoogleDesktop, Growl, iStat Menus (awesome calendar to replace apples, now i know why they let you disable the menu clock!), Mouseworks, TuneKeys

Crashes Firefox 3 - Version: 2.5, 5/25/2008 07:52PM PST
marivaux
For those running it on 10.4.11, it crashes all of the pre-release versions of Firefox 3 -- it would be really great to have a fix for this. I'm sure that Unsanity is putting its efforts into creating a 10.5 version, but a lot of us are still running Shapeshifter on 10.4, and it's not like Firefox is a marginal program.
GUI for Leopard is beyond pathetic - Version: 2.5, 3/22/2008 11:35PM PST

Are you kidding me? STILL no GUI customization resources of any kind for Leopard? Individuality and customization is pretty much the only thing that Apple had going for it to begin with and now we can't even change a single facet of what is supposed to be OUR interface? Windows Vista even allows customization with or without 3rd party downloads. Leopard-it's ugly. Its primitive. And the additional software available is BEYOND pathetic. Hmmmmm, no wonder Windows destroys Mac is basically, well, everything. I'm sure glad I bought into the hype and bought this useless machine.
Need Leopard version as anti-depressant - Version: 2.5, 1/10/2008 04:50AM PST

After using Leopard "Dark gray" for hours, I actually feel depressed. Of course having the only OS on planet which you can't customize with themes adds more to the depression.
Candybar 3 gives some light to this dull and dark looking OS but of course, it can't change the dark Safari window I am staring at right now.
There are thousands and thousands of people who REJECTS upgrading to Leopard just because of Shapeshifter.
Either a safe method like Application Enhancer or a more plain method like backing up system resources and replacing them with theme, we really need to get rid of this USSR looking OS Desktop.
Just imagine, you can install FreeBSD, one of the most nerd , server oriented, serious operating systems to your Intel Mac and will be introduced by 30-40 KDE or Gnome or even Window Maker (OpenSTEP) stock themes to choose from.

Can't wait for the Leopard compatible version to try some proven themes to get the not-so-unified grey "soviet-block" style off my Mac.
Think I'm going to pay again for what ended up being a reason to do a complete reinstall ? H E double hockey sticks no ! Lousy crashmaster program that isn't supported ! Dump that junk !
