ATI Displays Commentary10.5 compatible? - Version: 4.5.7, 11/18/2007 09:57AM PST

ATI Displays CommentaryUt oh... - Version: 4.5.7, 7/25/2006 01:43AM PST

ATI is now getting bought out by AMD who focuses on Windows machines mostly. This may or may not be good for Mac users. Hope support for Macs continues.. but it may not... Then again, ATI support, etc. sux and has sucked for years... hopefully AMD will improve support, etc. for Mac users... instead of dropping or, God forbid, even worsening support. (Which means I will never use their products again esp. after all the trouble with ATI already) It will be a challenge to do worse than ATI... i.e., this 4.5.7 update completely hoses my 8500's ability to do TV out... yet there hasn't been NO fix for this in a VERY long time so I'm stuck at 4.5. That sucks.. ATI sucks.

ATI Displays CommentaryWhat does it really do? - Version: 4.5.7, 6/6/2006 03:16AM PST

Having recently re-installed my entire system except this control panel, I'm left with the following question: What did it really do? The operating system comes with it's own drivers for your ATI cards. This panel only lets you turn on and off little settings that just aren't visible to the human eye anyway. Well... not on my screen anyway.

Unless you have an urge to be able to rotate the screen so that you can look at it upside-down, it's better to let your OS do the driving.

By the way, the older versions of ATI Displays ARE available on their web site. But no uninstaller like Cowicide says.

ATI Displays ReviewDAMMIT ATI!!!!!!!! - Version: 4.5.7, 1/18/2006 03:17PM PST

Like an idiot I trusted that this would be an UPDATE instead of ruining my system. I was at ATI Displays 4.5 and there was NO TROUBLE with my video out on my Radeon 8500 with Mac OS 10.3.9. After installing this 4.5.7 version I now have NO VIDEO OUT AT ALL. Of course, the idiots at ATI have no uninstall and I can't find the older installer anyway. Now I have to either PAY THEM for support or just go without video out on a product I paid for. I think it f'd up the ATI TVOUT kernel extension, but I can't find it anywhere to replace it. #*$&^$!!!!!!!!!!! What an "UPDATE".

If you install 10.4.4 the VersaVision is fixed. Apple broke it with 10.4.3.

Ever since ATI Displays 4.5.1, I have been getting an error when I went to the ATI Displays System Preferences:

"Installation failed! Do you want to quit ATI Displays?
The error codes are 0, 0 ,21"

For me, ATI Displays 4.5.7 fixes this long standing problem.

ATI Displays Troubleshooting ReportHow to fix your rotate woes! - Version: 4.5.7, 12/18/2005 04:04AM PST

Hit rotate and your hosed (like me)? The way to fix it is you go and boot in safe mode (command-shift during startup) and then delete any ATI files in your /Library/Preferences/ and ~/Library/Preferences/. It doesn't hurt to take out the ByHost stuff too (I deleted a lot of stuff before I found that file).

ATI support for PowerBooks is lame - Do they actually test this software on machines? Think the general message for all PowerBooks users is ignore this useless lamesware.
