I?ve just bought a 9800Pro Mac Edition: I followed the steps and the software reports my card is not eligible for upgrade. I may have a recent ROM already?

ATI RADEON ROM Update ReviewWorked fine on 7000 Mac Edition card - Version: Aug 2005, 8/16/2005 08:29PM PST

Followed the directions specifying the Safe Boot and no applications running during the update.

After the re-start (prompted by a dialogue at the end of the installation), I noticed that several files had been added to the trash.

The 7000 ME card is in a 266-mhz Beige G3 (rev A) running OS 10.4.2 (enabled by XPostFacto 4.0b5). XPF 4.0b5 also has made it possible for the old Beige to do a Safe Boot, something that was not possible earlier.

ATI RADEON ROM Update Usage TipClumsy installer - Version: Aug 2005, 8/13/2005 07:23AM PST

for the average computer user, even the more savvy Mac user ;-). Three things to keep in mind if you're going to run this: Safe Boot from shut down, not Restart. Be sure once you Safe Boot that no other apps are running (Dashboard excluded apparently), and carefully notice the installation buttons- Disagree is defaulted in the Wizard. This app ran correctly on my Dual 2GHz G5 with 9800 Pro, 10.4.2 and I look forward to its performance improvements including frozen cursor fix, wake from sleep, etc..

ATI RADEON ROM Update Troubleshooting ReportDual G5 no longer boots - Version: Aug 2005, 8/12/2005 05:45PM PST

I have a dual G5 2.7GHz with an X800 XT installed. Applying this ROM update went fine, but upon reboot, the Mac gets to the desktop images, and then hangs. Spinning beachball and everything. ATI doesn't know what to do in the short term, and I have a ticket open and am waiting for them to get back to me. VERY frustrating. I expected more from ATI. So now I run in Safe Boot mode, at least I can do some things. Any suggestions? I've repaired permissions (nothing looked related, didn't expect it to be) and sent them all console logs and System Profiler info. Not sure what else I can do but wait.

ATI RADEON ROM Update Troubleshooting ReportDual 2.0 G5 OS X 10.4.2 install issues - Version: Aug 2005, 8/12/2005 09:49AM PST

Is anyone running ANY G5 powermac with OS X 10.4.2 having trouble getting the installer to see that I've booted my mac while holding the shift key, thus entering this "Safe Boot" mode (which isn't apparent or displayed differently).

No matter what I do, I can't get the installer to get past the screen telling me to reboot into Safe Mode! Any workarounds? Help!

ATI RADEON ROM Update ReviewRadeon 8500/Sawtooth - Version: Aug 2005, 8/12/2005 09:22AM PST

Apple's DVD Player still displays not much other than flashing green artifacts with this update in OS X 10.4.2, using a Radeon 8500 on a Sawtooth G4. (This is a common issue with this vid card/Mac combination; search Apple Discussions for Radeon green for several threads about it.)

Removing the file /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeon8500VADriver.bundle and rebooting "fixes" the flashing, but at what cost?

I wish someone (Apple? ATI?) would step up and fix this.

Safe boot to install on B+W 450 running 10.4.2, rebooted into normal mode and update completed without issue.
