Happened on two different Mac OS X 10.3.9 machines.

Aquallegro is THE training soft I was looking for, compact, free, beautifull, rich in options. Now you added the keyboard, I began to dream of a guitar quiz ! Even if you begin by a single notes quiz : 1. show a guitare with a cord/fret selected point and quiz the note on a classic score and 2. the contrary. C'mon :-)

First of all, I appreciate that the program is freeware, and I think it has the potential to be very helpful for music students to brush up on skills. I'd like to offer a few observations for how to improve it.
During note naming, even when accidentals were turned off, it would still ask for double-flat notes. Providing only a single octave display keyboard for note-entry is not ideal since the staff will allow for a wider range. It would be better to have a keyboard with a middle-C labeled.
In the chord drills, the Dominant 7th chord is listed as "Major-Minor 7th". To me the term Dominant 7th is more common. But we could argue this over coffee.
The randomness of the exercises is not very good. Frequently, the same example was repeated 2 and 3 times. It might be worth considering a random generator that avoids or minimizes repeats.
With a few tweaks to the interface, and perhaps later development of rhythm dictation drills, this program will be a very helpful, portable tool.

Aquallegro Start Bug Fixed - Version: 3.1, 11/8/2004 12:55AM PST

It appears this bug originates from an issue with Stuffit Expander somehow "unsetting" the executable bit for Aquallegro. I'm not sure how or why this happens yet, but for the few that it seems to affect, first try making sure you're using the latest version of Stuffit (or whatever program you're using to decompress the file), and if that doesn't work, follow these steps:
1. Open Terminal
2. Type "cd " (without quotes)
3. Drag Aquallegro onto the Terminal window.
4. Type "/Contents/MacOS/"
5. Hit enter
6. Type "chmod +x Aquallegro"
7. Hit enter again

I am running os 10.3.3 and the program works just fine. The interval and chord quizzes have sound. I'm not sure what sound you would expect from a key signature quiz.

I was looking forward to trying this app, but I can't get it to launch in Panther.
BTW, I agree with the earlier reviewer who observed that a music theory teaching application without sound doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Nevertheless, I'm not rating this app until I can try it... which won't happen until a Panther-compatible version is available.

The program is simple and easy to understand and with a little work you will learn a little about music but this program could have been much, much better with just a little more work.
1. Sound! A music program should have sound! It would be nice to hear the notes as they are displayed..adding sound to programs is easy and at version 3 it should have had sound two versions ago.
2. Midi keyboard support. Again this is not too difficult to add but the program would benefit greatly from this addition.
Given the program is free and will teach you something if it ever wants to make the jump to shareware or commercial it will have to have the features above. As a teaching tool it makes the grade but only when grading on a curve.

Would also like a timer option added to all the quizes. This app is really a GREAT idea. Hard to believe no one did it before. Maybe it was too obvious.
