Product Description:

Java has become the de-facto standard language for developing cross-platform applications. Recognizing this, Apple has made Java a core component of Mac OS X. Mac OS X includes the full version of Java 2, Standard Edition, version 1.4.2 — meaning you have the Java Developer Kit (JDK) and the HotSpot virtual machine (VM) without downloading, installing or configuring anything. And because Apple has optimized Java on Mac OS X, Java applications act as first-class citizens on Mac OS X.

What's new in this version:

provides improved behavior for applets in Safari and increased stability for desktop Java applications. Java 1.4.2 Update 2 also includes all the improvements from Java 1.4.2 Update 1. The system will be updated to Java 1.4.2 Update 2. If the system currently has Java 1.4.1, it will be removed. Any previous Java 1.4.2 installation will be completely replaced.

This sorry "update" has prevented me from retrieving messages with Mail 1.2.11 on both my G# and G4 12" laptop. I have resrted to using Entourage 2004 - a program I don't like. Why does Apple release software without testing?

Apple Java Update Troubleshooting ReportUpdate Broke My Citrix Client Connection - Version: 1.4.2 Update 2, 10/1/2004 08:04PM PST

I installed this Java 1.4.2 update and now my Citrix Client connection no longer works. Instead I get this error message:

java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.ConnectionCenter

So now I can't connect and work from remote locations. Anyone have any suggestions for how to get out of this?
