myVCR Commentarymaybe it's my setup but I get nothing - Version: 0.1.2, 1/6/2008 01:30PM PST

doole
Using a MBP and a Canopus digitizer, I set myVCR to record from 1:46 pm to 1:48 pm. It translated that as "3275 minutes", and after I cancelled the recording, the resultant movie was not recognized as a movie by QT. I'm a bit underwhelmed.

myVCR ReviewWorks for me ... - Version: 0.1.2, 9/11/2007 05:38PM PST

Got a Snazzi DV Bridge II cheap (very old - included s/w is for Mac OS 9.04). MyVCR worked fine; and recording quality was very good. Played around with the settings to get the compression required to keep the file small.

Two areas of improvement though ...
1) It locked up 17 GB of space on the hard disk while the recorder was running, and released it as soon as the recorder switched off. It would have been nice to be able to configure the maximum somewhere. Could not locate a setting for this.

2) The "stop" setting did not work as expected 2 times out of 3. I.e. it kept recording past the "stop timer" time. Think it was just me - and am trying it again.

NOTE: It's donation ware - so if you like it , go to their site and show them you like them :-)

myVCR CommentaryNo use with myTV2Go - Version: 0.1.2, 1/29/2006 02:54AM PST

I tried to use this to avoid the tricky software of EskapeLab to record, but it was not able even to start: it crashes at start. A window appears for 1 second and then the app crashes. Maybe bacause myTV is USB based? Anyway I'd like to see an alert, not just a crash! I cannot rate it.

myVCR ReviewWorks where others fail - Version: 0.1.2, 6/29/2005 07:21PM PST

I have a Belkin VideoBus II.
To get this to work on Mac OSX required $25 on a driver from EchoFX. Came with software - great! Only the export feature would just crash.
Okay, try Quicktime. Now I have a driver, I hear Quicktime Pro should be able to handle it. Imports great, it just that the audio is five seconds ahead of the video.
Next!
myVCR...
Uses the echoFX driver and the same preference panels, but saves directly into quicktime format AND the lipsync is spot on.

Not only that. myVCR is free!!

Brilliant!

myVCR ReviewWorks Good! Works Real Good! - Version: 0.1.1, 12/20/2004 11:19AM PST

It's small and simple but it works! Video quality was outstanding, as good as BTV Pro with the same Quicktime-based choices for compressors, data rates, etc. The major downside - you can only preset one program to be recorded at a time. Add more robust programming features and you have a great app! Also, the timer keeps the computer from going to sleep which is OK but how about a wake from sleep function? Nice work!

myVCR ReviewJust the ticket ! - Version: 0.1.1, 8/30/2004 09:30PM PST

This program let me use my firewire digital video camera as a LIVE VCR input device to my eMac so I could record DIRECTLY to the eMac from my regular old VCR!

Now I don't have to purchase an expensive external video input device! This records both audio and video and is configurable!

The only downside (and I can get around it) is that the final file size is too large to import it into iMovie without some kind of DV split-er program.

Now if only it would split the output files into smaller clips when it saved the file then it would be fantastic! (like 9 minutes so it will import into iMovie, or a user configurable lenght.) My DV camera is a JVC GR-D90. Thanks for the program! Also it would be nice to have a simple button for "Capture Now" instead of having to use the drop-down menu. Also a help file would be much appreciated. This is a beta so I understand that it is a work in progress (including the help file, I assume as well.) But for a beta... WOW !

myVCR Reviewsimple, reliable and works with the DC30 under OSX - Version: 0.1.1, 5/25/2004 03:21AM PST

Was looking for a small app just for video capture compatible with the DC 30 with the Xact driver from http://www.alfanet.it/squared5/dc30xact.html under OSX.
It is updated to Panther (not like BTV pro) and its a freeware...

thanks !
