Product Description:

Name those Files! is a powerful yet intuitive batch renaming utility. NtF! allows you to easily rename large numbers of files or folders on your Mac using advanced numbering, trimming, and search & replace capabilities. NtF! is the perfect addition to your digital camera and is also great for organizing your digital music library, HTML files, desktop publishing projects, and can be used for any number of other purposes.

What's new in this version:

  • Improved compatibility with Mac OS X 10.4.3 (Tiger).
  • Fixed the behavior of the Trim from End feature to work properly when entering a negative value. If a negative value is input, NtF! will trim everything to the left of the nth character. For example, if you just want the last 8 letters of all file names, even if they are of varying lengths, enter 0 for the Trim from Start value and -8 for the Trim from End value. Positive values in the Trim from End field will still trim that amount of characters from the end of the original name.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.4 PPC
  • Mac OS X 10.3.9
  • Mac OS X 10.3
  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2 or higher

NTF has many options on how you wish to batch your files; more than I've been able to use, but they are there nonetheless.

This developer is responsive and writes other excellent software apps like Jon's Phone Tool, among others.

for this sort of job is "File List" <http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/27090>

I tried a dozen tools including Name Those Files before settling on File List. The interface ain't all that lovely but it works fast, intuitively and bug-free.

Over the past 5 years I have taken 12,000+ digital pictures and this app has saved me a ton of time in organizing them (not only renaming them but sorting them into folders by date). Earlier versions were slow (though still faster than my manually doing the work it does) but this last version is MUCH faster. I don't love the interface but it works and I guess that's what counts. I know I don't even use all of its features (GREP is beyond me) but what I do use has certainly paid for itself many times over.
