We definitely DON'T require our customers to work on a server! - Version: 2.04, 7/28/2004 02:28PM PST

Slugger has been in use for 14 years at some of the world's top publishers. There is no way we could do that if we made it so you HAD to open files from a server. Not sure where this bogus info comes from but we'd love to make a wager about it...prove that we require this and get one copy of all our desktop software for free...worth thousands of dollars! FYI: This is especially true of our Illustrator Slugger which has no possiblity of caring about a server unless you go to register it on-line and then only for a minute while registering. We also don't prevent anybody from working off a server...which is perfectly OK too.
requires opening files over network (a big no-no) - Version: 2.04, 5/4/2004 02:04PM PST

gluon is making money off their line of "slugger" xtensions/plugins that require you to open files over the network. do yourself a favor and check with your i.t. staff before requesting "slugger". in most real-world environments, working over the network is simply not permitted. too many things can happen, even if you have a rock solid network and top end server. one glitch in your connection and the file is locked or corrupoted.
gluon designed "slugger" without consulting with the vast majority of i.t. support people out in the field. for this reason they get my thumbs-down. too much marketing hype and a fundamentally flawed design (working off server). as your i.t. staff what they think before sticking your neck out.
ps, and don't believe gluon's sales staff...they just want to sell it to you and don't care whether it creates issues that will put you on your i.t. staff's bad side.
