Ovolab Phlink ReviewSupport is a shame - Version: 4.0.2, 7/5/2008 04:07AM PST

After a move from Tiger to Leopard I had to change the hard drive to store the voice recordings on - after re-configuring Phlink to use the new path to the recordings folder new recordings go in there pretty well but I can't play the old recordings anymore from within Phlink. :-(

I contacted support on 16th of June and send a reminder every few days - no answer (not even a "we could reproduce the problem and are working on it") till today (5th of July).

It's is a shame to treat your paying customers like this!

Ovolab Phlink ReviewProduct is fair to good/support is only fair - Version: 3.6.1, 1/21/2008 12:00AM PST

The reviews you see here are pretty accurate. If you're facile with AppleScript and do not need tech support, the application generally works quite well.

The problem is that out of the box, there are numerous users with difficulties. I have had trouble with getting Phlink to hang up the phone reliably, and most recently find that the program hangs every week or so, necessitating a backup answering system as calls would otherwise be missed.

Tech support is spotty at best. There is a online forum, and helpful suggestions are offered, but notice that there are numerous complaints on the forum about the lack of support from the developer.

Now that PhoneValet is available in a considerably cheaper version (I think it's only $50), I think it's worth considering which product to get. I won't be upgrading to Phlink 4.0 for $40 until I have some answering regarding support for the product going forward.

Ovolab Phlink ReviewSuddenly Very Broken Product and Company - Version: 3.6.1, 12/17/2007 11:45PM PST

Have used for years without issue. Since Leopard the product is very broken for me, and judging by their support forums, many others. In the past they used to be very responsive but now support e-mails and messages in the forums go unanswered. When I bought this it was stocked by Apple but I see the online store no longer lists it. Is there a connection I wonder? I advise caution with this. Would love it to be fixed because when it worked it was fine. Now if often refuses to answer calls, often doesn't recognise caller IDs, on the rare occasions it picks up a call it refuses to hang up..

Great shame.

Ovolab Phlink ReviewComplete Desaster at least - Version: 3.6.1, 11/26/2007 08:41AM PST

with 10.3 phlink2 was killing my server - ate all CPU load.

Now I have to pay about 80 $$ to upgrade software AND hardware for usage with the actual OS. This is rubbish! A commercial desaster for me.

Ovolab Phlink ReviewWorks for me. - Version: 3.6.1, 11/14/2007 03:45PM PST

Although I've had some minor problems with some of the plug-ins, I too have to say that the product has worked exactly as I wanted for YEARS.

I use many of the features like custom caller menus, home automation integration, custom ringtones, etc. and the software "just works." My biggest complaint would be that it doesn't run as a service, but since I have several other packages that also have to run under an active account, it isn't causing me to lose any sleep.

While I haven't looked at Phone Valet, I can say that the "openness" of this package makes it perfect for anyone who wants to write custom applications that interact w/ their phone. If you can write Applescript, you'll have no problem making this bugger jump through hoops for you.

Ovolab Phlink ReviewGreat package! - Version: 3.6, 10/28/2007 04:55PM PST

I don't know why others have had issues with Phlink, but I have it set up at home and my business, and it is great!

It certainly does as it says - it makes your landline phone a part of your digital hub.

My favourite feature would have to be the ability to have the software email you a copy of any messages it records - very handy, also very cool :)

Ovolab Phlink ReviewRun, do not walk, away from this software - Version: 3.5, 10/15/2007 08:50AM PST

I echo francoisgrenier and most of the other posts, i'm too annoyed to go into details. We still run version 2, as no version of 3.x has worked at all even though we've paid for that update. I'm ordering Phone Valet now to see if it works any better.

Ovolab Phlink ReviewUnusable because of so many bug! - Version: 3.4, 8/31/2007 06:08AM PST

the feature make you dream but the software is so bugy that make it unusable even for the basic feature like caller id who work 50% of the time for the same caller. The answering capabality is a pain to install and still do not work well like the overlape of the system greeting and your greeting, answering randomly decide to answer, inaudible answer and I pass. The support is also useless and fill with more question and promise than answer and real help.
