The support rocks, all the more amazing since this is freeware.
I contacted the developer regarding the issue with opening files in 10.3.9, now about a week later he's already fixed Tubby with a new version. Even with shareware I've never experienced such responsivness from a developer.
Now I'm almost done purging my HD of that nasty-arse proprietary windows CHM format. 'Tis a great day, when you can say you have one less Microsoft file type on your system.
Tubby does what it says, does it well, and is in active development. It's even free. Good luck finding other freeware this good!

Have only just downloaded this and haven't actually run it yet. My suggestion is to merge its existing functionality with indexing capabilities and the ability to create the appropriate file/folder hierarchy, in order to convert CHM files into Apple Help "books", such as one finds in /Library/Documentation/Index, in one step.
But this is a great idea. We have a collection of CHM electronic books for some Microsoft apps under our Microsoft license. Until now they've been Windows-only, even though some of actual content is applicable to Mac users. Using Tubby as a starting point, I'm now going to look at how they can be converted into Apple Help books.

Great little app...

Just what I was looking for. It crashed on the first chm I tried which was pretty complex. It had 150 pages and a bunch of images and was about 8 MB. The second time I tried it it on that file it worked great. Not bad for a beta.

I need a really good reason before I'll give some random application permission to modify the OS. I'm quite capable of dragging and dropping icons to install the application where I want it to go.
Fortunately in this case I could fetch the source and build the .app myself...

At last I can read chm files on my Mac

Thanks to the developer of this small application. At last, Mac users can expand and read on their machines .chm files, the Microsoft help format used for many (too many) ebooks. Just drag and drop the file you want to read and click the expand button. That's all. It could be helpful if one could choose a folder where to expand the files. Thanks again.
