Internet Connection Monitor CommentaryOnly works with dial-up? - Version: 5.1, 9/13/2005 07:36PM PST

I downloaded the free trial, and even after re-ordering my network port configurations to put my ethernet connection at the top of the list (buried in the documentation it says it only monitors the first one in the list) it still tries to dial up a connection when I click on the connect button instead of monitoring my ethernet connection. Is this software incapable of monitoring a LAN connection through a router?

Internet Connection Monitor ReviewLimited, and needlessly limiting - Version: 5.1, 12/10/2004 10:57AM PST

I was interested in seeing if my broadband throughput was what I was paying for. I downloaded and installed Internet Connection Monitor. The first thing I found was that the app was time-limited and would shut-down after a few hours. The second thing I found was that measured throughput was capped at 7 KBs, though the cap value was "editable" according to the splash page. In order to find out how to edit the throughput value, I was referred to the documentation.

I went to the documentation and found that the .html documentation retained the BBE creator code - and launched my OS 9.2 BBE editor rather than a browser. BBE reveals that the documentation was last saved in July 2003 *meaning* that the documentation hasn't been updated since then. Most users won't have BBE or BBE Lite installed and the creator code shouldn't do much more than require that a user designate the browser to load the documentation.

I found the interface obstructive - it floats over all other apps and hiding the interface requires many, many individual menu calls to select and hide each small "window". This is cumbersome and poorly thought out.

I found that the application was unsuitable to monitor broadband access. I also found that the majority of the features of the application were difficult to access, limited in their range and/or crippled in the un-paid mode.

This is a curious mix of features in the age of broadband. It is impossible to fully evaluate without purchasing a licensed copy and I'm not impressed enough with the distribution to purchase a full version license.
