epcAs others have mentioned, there's no discounted price for owners of version one. The reason according to their website is that "The efforts to check legitimacy of the upgrade buyers would be higher than the product price."
I'm not sure about this. I would gladly provide them with my registration information so the effort would be on my part and not theirs. If 2 or more people provide identical information they could ban those serials.
The software itself received a change in the GUI. Navigation now requires an additional step. With the original version, users could select an icon on the toolbar and go directly to a specific feature (e.g., Maintenance, Clean Up, Files, etc.). With the revised version users have to "Show All" features and then select one. I did not find this as efficient as the previous version.
For evaluation purposes "You can launch the application five (5) times per computer only." Unfortunately, some features require multiple launches. For example, I cleared my font cache and had to logout. After login TTS2 was automatically launched to finish the task, so 2 out of 5 launches were used testing a single feature.
TinkerTool System 2 adds many features as well as Snow Leopard compatibility. For new users it may be worth it. In my case I see no reason to upgrade. I would rate the previous version with 5 stars, but with the lack of upgrade discount, the limited demo, and the inefficient interface, version 2 is not worthy of the same rating.

No discounted upgrade for version 1.xx users - Version: 2.0, 7/1/2009 08:01AM PST

virtualsaturnaYou get a free upgrade license if you happened to have bought it July 3rd of 2008 or sooner.
I happened to have bought just slightly previous to that, so I am supposed to pay out the full price again if I want compatibility with the imminent OS X 10.6. There is no discounted upgrade at all for loyal version 1.xx purchasers.
Best so far

SomebodyI don’t recall ever having a problem due to using TTS. I did contact the author once with a question and he provided a quick response. Overall I’m very happy with TTS.

MrsKatzIt's got a wealth of extremely useful features, some of which are not found elsewhere.
Marcel Bresink, TinkerTool System's developer, really knows what he's doing....and it shows. TinkerTool System is as good as a full featured maintenance app gets.
I've contacted him on a couple of occasions with queries, and he has been responsive and most helpful each time.
A truly stellar offering from a master. TinkerTool System is well worth its very modest cost. It's one of the finest system maintenance apps out there.
Recant

robogoboNow, I'm sure Tinkertool is a good program, but the worst part came when I contacted the developer, Marcel Bresnik. He insisted kernel crashes are only caused by hardware problems, and called me a liar when I said my crashlogs were naturally reverted when I cloned from a backup, and would be of no use in troubleshooting. I asked for a refund, but then told him he could keep his $10 if it was too big a deal, to show him I wasn't lying to rip him off, and I would simply give honest feedback on Versiontracker. So there it is. And it's a shame, because it's probably a good program that needs improvement in a few areas, and the developer just happens to be a defensive ass. Oh well, back to Butler.
hey!

robogoboTinker Tool is really really great. Better than *censored*tail, and it is FREE. This utility, TINKERTOOL SYSTEM is an expansion of Tinkertool, does what *censored*tail doesn't even attempt, and is well priced.

The upgrade cost should also be rethought. Say maybe $5.00 USD off for an upgrade. Just MHO.
