Product Description:

One of the more ironic permissions issues in OS X Jaguar is when the permissions of the Disk Utility application itself become corrupted. This can prevent you from being able to use Disk Utility's "Repair Permissions" tab to repair the permissions on your disk, including those of the Disk Utility application itself. Repair Disk Utility's Permissions can fix this corruption which would result in the following type of "Operation not permitted" errors reported in the Repair Permissions' progress window:

User differs on ./Applications, should be 0, owner is 501
Group differs on ./Applications, should be 80, group is 99
Owner and group not corrected on ./Applications, reason Operation not permitted
Permissions not corrected on ./Applications, reason Operation not permitted

What's new in this version:

  • Rewritten as a Cocoa (AppleScript Studio) application with a cleaner interface.
  • Added a workaround for an AppleScript bug that could prevent a user whose password is blank from successfully executing the "do shell script" repair procedure.

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

  • Mac OS X 10.2

Additional Requirements:

  • Mac OS X 10.2.x only

Repair Disk Utilitys Permissions Commentaryjust a side note... - Version: 3.0, 12/12/2008 07:54AM PST

OxyParadox
I apologize for posting a commentary without being a consistent user of this software - I've had OK results with it. But given the complaints listed in the feedback, it seems odd to me that no one has mentioned BatchMod, which also has its quirks (unexpected quits in 10.5.5 from time to time, etc) but performs many of the same tasks well, can focus in on individual files and folders, and is freeware.

But I'm going to download this latest edition of RDUP and see what's what.

Repair Disk Utilitys Permissions CommentarySorry about the bad download link - Version: 3.0, 3/29/2004 02:39PM PST

I'm not sure what the deal was with the bad download link, but sorry about that. I've created two alternate copies of the files and renamed them, removing the ' (apostrophe) from their names, so I hope that clears things up.

Repair Disk Utilitys Permissions CommentaryOf course it doesn't work with 10.3 - Version: 3.0, 1/18/2004 01:56PM PST

Blimey, a Limey: I thought I've made it rather clear that this app is designed specifically for OS X 10.2.x and isn't necessary in Panther OS X 10.3. Hence the "Mac OS X 10.2.x only" Product Requirements and the bright red "NOTE:" on my homepage.

Are people really having problems downloading this? It's been working fine from here when trying the download with Safari. By the looks of it, with close to 2,000 downloads of this version, it looks like people are getting it okay. I'll try logging in double-checking the URL.

It does look like VersionTracker's site isn't too happy with the apostrophe in my apps name, as in writing this feedback the name is shown as "Repair Disk Utility\\\'s Permissions - Mac OS X".
