Product Description:

The best data recovery software for the Mac platform now has the ability to recover deleted files in the new and improved Data Rescue II.

Do you have a corrupt hard drive or one that no longer mounts? Are other tools failing to even recognize your bad drive? Data Rescue II is the best data recovery utility on the market for recovering files from a problem hard drive. Other utilities can cause more damage to your hard drive and files by trying to 'fix' the problem, instead of focusing on recovering your files. Do not use a repair utility until you've safely recovered your important files over to a safe location. Data Rescue II should be your first option to recover your important data, before you try any risky "repair" utility.

An optional emergency bootable CD is also available.*

What's new in this version:

  • Now ships on Bootable Leopard DVD
  • A bug was fixed which prevented several file modules which were based on binary property lists from being disabled.
  • A built-in file module was added for recovering gzip files.
  • Two bugs were fixed which could rarely cause crashes during scanning.
  • A bug was fixed which could rarely cause a Data Rescue user preferences file to become inaccessible due to permissions.
  • A bug was fixed which prevented the user from re-choosing the same working directory on second and subsequent scans.
  • Checks which are designed to prevent the user from inadvertently choosing to write to the scan drive or inside the current working directory, were tightened up.

Data Rescue II ReviewWorking great, well worth it - Version: 3.0.1, 10/28/2009 08:51AM PST

as usual, their product is working great, just finally upgraded to 3.x from 2 yesterday, already had 2 drives to use it on, so far seems a bit faster, and I like that you can choose which interface you want, "old" style, or the newer more graphical style for selecting disks.

Reasonable cost especially for the tech license when working on customer hard drives each week.

I hadn't actually run into any crashes with 3.0.0, but late yesterday the 3.0.1 update was released to address crashes & stability.

Generally as soon as I know a drive has bad sectors, I use Data Rescue to do the recovery, because it will do multiple attempts of the file (rarely, but sometimes a 2nd or 3rd try actually results in a successful read), and will continue meaning it takes less of my time to recover the files.

I'll post more once I've had to a chance to use it for a couple of weeks, possibly with more difficult drives, the most recent 2 happened to be working fairly well.

Data Rescue II CommentaryToo Expensive - Version: 3.0.1, 10/27/2009 04:38PM PST

I guess Prosoft hasn't noticed there's a recession on. I, for one, cannot afford to upgrade from Data Rescue II for $65. While this is a decent discount from the retail price of $99, in my book, in these times, they are both overpriced.
