Zeds Dead: No need to boot into Classic, there's a Carbon (read OS X compatible) version of MacTFTP available. Just search here for it.

Linksys Cable/DSL firewall, 4 port switch/VPN CommentarySystem dropping IP address. - Version: 1.50.9, 4/5/2004 07:36PM PST

Since installing this update on my BEFSX41 I have been experienceing problems with my G4 running OS 10.3.

After about an hour or so of starting my machine I lose the assigned IP address. Nothing I do seems to be able to reconnect short of restarting my machine. This is very frustrating as you can imagibe. I have had this router for over a year now and had no problems with it. Even after I upgraded to 10.3 a couple of months ago. These problems only cropped up after the upgrade to the router.

I also have an iMac running OS 10.2 and this has NOT experienced a problem since the upgrade.

Any ideas?

Yeah, MacTFTP seems to be the way... it's ridiculous because OS X even has tftp installed but I haven't gotten it to work yet, so I launch Classic and use MacTFTP still...

Linksys Cable/DSL firewall, 4 port switch/VPN CommentaryAm I missing something ...? - Version: 1.50.9, 3/25/2004 06:30PM PST

Am I missing something? Linksys seems happy enough to accept a Mac user's money for their product(s), but we we seem to have to jump through lots of hoops in order get their product(s) to work or even open after a download! What gives?

Very important installation note: It zapped everything back to zero. Factory settings across the board, so if you have settings that are important and non-default, write them down first!

Other than that, I can't comment too extensively because I just installed it about 10 minutes ago, but the new interface is much better layed out. For example, they actually (gasp) tell you the name of the product in the top corner. If you have several Linksii routers on your net, this is a good thing as it helps avoid accidentally updating firmware to the wrong one, etc etc.

Things I am concerned about and will be testing:

  • Does it properly maintain an ssh connection? (This was finally fixed in the previous update.)
  • Am I able to deny access to the net for certain IP numbers again? (This broke in the previous update for me.)
