Product Description:

ASCII/edit is an editor for tables, diagrams, or simple graphics made of ASCII characters in a fixed-width font. It lets you arrange text on a page, as with a layout software; align and indent paragraphs, like in a word processor; and add lines or rectangles, as in a drawing application. The output, however, is pure ASCII text, which you can include in e-mails, newsgroups, or technical documentation. ASCII/edit is also extremely useful for software developers, who can use it to create explaining sketches to include in source code files.

What's new in this version:

  • all text editing commands now also work on multiple, non-contiguous selections
  • the text ruler now appears at a fixed position at the top of the window
  • improved editing of text boxes which are obscured by other objects
  • some minor improvements regarding text editing
  • objects now move by 10 units when holding down the shift key and pressing an arrow key
  • the main window now has the “unifiedâ€? title bar and toolbar look
  • the Show/Hide Invisible Characters menu item moved to the Text menu
  • the ASCII generating algorithm now handles some control characters better
  • fixed a bug which occurred when option-dragging an object below the page’s visible clipping
  • fixed a bug which could lead to a crash after using the Find command
  • fixed an error in the Rewrap command, which could result in incorrect indenting for lines with tabs within their leading whitespace

Operating System Requirements:

This product is designed to run on the following operating systems:

ASCII/edit CommentaryI think I'll stick with... - Version: 1.1, 4/20/2005 10:30AM PST

E-mail Effects and Table Text from Sig Software. Its a tad more expensive, but seems to be more useful. It can also render simple line drawing into ASCII art, which this app doesn't seem to do. Don't get me wrong--this app is fine and does what it says, but if you already have the Sig Software product, there's no need to switch that I can see.
