ALERT: Possible (likely) bug in 2.8.8 - Version: 2.8.8, 12/31/2008 11:38AM PST

brian163You can correct it by re-feeding the tracks through the previous version (2.8.5) but I'd recommend just sticking with 2.8.5 for now.
I've contacted the author on this but thought others should be aware in case VT doesn't take this down temporarily as I suggested.
Excellent for tidying up recordings

hilarleo"Have these commenters never tried Audacity?":
An MP3 editor is for editing of MP3 in MP3.
There's a reason most sound editors dont do what MP3T does.
Audacity can't edit within the cumbersome mp3 'frame' format.
Audacity is only said to edit MP3s, via multiple re-conversions...
an impractical and disingenuous notion.
re this 2.8 release, MP3 Trimmer offers MP3 editing & some convenience.
Central problems remain:
• MP3T still loses file name info. Why?
• Nothing is processed or saved if I've less than 30G free space- 4real.
There's no reason for it with files under ca. 500MB.
Most all of the interface problems (detailed below) remain.
• A clumsy, tedious operation- with surprizes-
Latest bug, my buttons won't release...
• MP3T is *not* completely stable.
+ I'm confused by MP3T's Editor:
The ID3-tag options seem to be forever non-activating.
Is this another bug- or am I just too dumb
to appreciate the complexities of this little app?
I wonder if the interface for the new competing app
<Fission> isn't significantly better.
OTOH :
My problem with MP3T rejecting all 300MB+ files- now seems
well &fully fixed :-)
the "Join" function interface is more functional
[though again, losing file names consistently sux].
Best Features:
• Batch processing is still possible (after a fashion)
• Works faster than ever

sohatemeI'm going to at least *try* MP3 Trimmer. But, Audacity is FREE. Fission is NOT.

hilarleoI agree the price is low; but the app has all the rough edges noted above - and many more.
I'd hoped to use it to remove commercials from sattelite broadcasts.
'MP3 Trimmer' has not made this rather obvious job simple.
'MP3T' support recognizes no limits to acceptable file sizes.
I find MP3 Trimmer does not consistently recognise files over 300 MB,
and refuses to deal at ca. 500MB,
declaring all such files unuseable by QuickTime...
'MP3T' then prompts to "repair" certain of these files
flagged as corrupted. After MP3 Trimmer's repair process,
these files now declared 'sucessfully repaired' by MP3 Trimmer are
then re-flagged as in need of exactly the same "repair"...
but QT and iTunes both quite succesfully handle these same files.
'MP3T' will not allow such files to be split either.
I consistently find unstable behaviours when joining files - including
crashing iTunes and losing files that were not successfully joined.
'MP3T' also grabbed at an MP3 file that I moved to the Trash...
Odd sprot.
Fission is now offering serious competition

rubaiyatI have however now bought Amoeba's <b>Fission</b> which clearly outclasses this as both an editor and for making equalising adjustments to encoded audio. Fission handles a much wider range of encodings (AAC, MP3, Apple Lossless & AIFF) and has far superior visual feedback and precision in snipping and joining. By comparison MP3 Trimmer is much more hit and miss and overall clumsy to navigate.
I have used MP3 Trimmer to concatenate (join) audio tracks, a sort of tack on feature which never really advanced despite my feedback.
It does this via a too-small pop down pane from the main window.
Items dragged in from list view come in out of order. Some tracks lose part of long file names making them hard to identify. It balks at different bit rates and is extremely clumsy when batch joining files, as it hides the names of files whilst working on them then closes the pane, forcing you to reopen it to continue with other files.
The odd user interface extends to simple things like the <b>Enter<b> key doesn't <b>OK<b> a join, it deletes a file from the list. I would have thought that is what the <b>Delete<b> key would be for. The supposed inclusion of IP3 data, I found to be erratic at best and required a check box to be ticked every time to work. It doesn't pick up on the file names when saving and as I said has stayed very basic.
Fission is slower joining files but has only just introduced this as a feature, I presume at my request. It does let you do this more visually and you have the opportunity to join files of different bitrates and then save them back at lower bitrates, where this takes me an extra trip to iTimes with MP3 Trimmer.
Fission is more expensive but does do a lot more formats and adjustments. It seems much more polished as well. It is still very new but will improve, judging by the quality of it's sister product Audio HiJack Pro.
Try both before buying.

File name

richard121It is a pain to have to go to the finder and rename the file after deleting the old one.
As I wprk in iTunes the library catalogue needs to change if I want to identify the new file.
How about this rename option as a preference setting?

brFerHaving looked at an earlier version of MP3 Trimmer, I realise it does not 'link' tracks for this purpose; at least I don't think it can.
Any advice what to do; where to look?
