Product Description:

The world's best way to create professional websites is now the easiest way to build powerful Internet applications. For the first time, you can work in a single environment to quickly create, build, and manage websites and Internet applications. Get visual layout tools. Rapid web application development. And extensive code-editing support. All in one complete, integrated solution—Dreamweaver MX.

What's new in this version:

Performance improvements

The update fixes various performance issues reported by some users, such as when typing in pages with nested tables, switching documents, or launching Dreamweaver.

Stability improvements

The update fixes several bugs that caused Dreamweaver to crash, such as in certain circumstances when working on ASP.NET or JSP pages in Design view, or when applying bold or italics to text after applying a color style to the text.

Timelines

The timelines feature, available in Dreamweaver MX but not in Dreamweaver MX 2004, has been restored. For help on using this feature, download the "Animating Layers with Timelines" PDF from the Dreamweaver Documentation Center.

Opening files with no specified character encoding

Users in eastern Europe report that when a character encoding is not specified in an existing page, Dreamweaver does not correctly display the eastern European characters. When you open a page in Dreamweaver, the application checks the encoding specified in the page's meta tag to tell it how to encode and decode the characters in the file. If the meta tag does not specify an encoding, however, Dreamweaver guesses latin-1 or some other encoding that might not be the desired encoding.

To address this problem, a new preference was added to check for an encoding every time you open a page in Dreamweaver. If the page does not specify an encoding, Dreamweaver sets the page's encoding to the specified default encoding. To turn on this preference, open the New Document preference dialog box (Edit > Preferences > New Document), and then select the checkbox below the Default Encoding pop-up menu.

ColdFusion Reference help

An updated version of the ColdFusion Reference help is installed with Dreamweaver. The new reference fixes a problem with section introductions that contained only a heading and no links to the section topics. It also fixes a problem where the standard reference subheadings (Description, Category, Syntax, and so on) were not displayed.

Because of file size considerations, the new reference is not included in the 7.0.1 updater. However, you can install it separately as an extension in Windows or Macintosh. For more information, see the Dreamweaver Exchange.

Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004 CommentaryStill Loyal After All These Years - Version: 10.0, 6/29/2009 11:08AM PST

Why the devil can't Adobe use Apple's UI conventions? Stop fighting with Apple and her customers. No your market. I've been using Dreamweaver since the early days of Macromedia and have always liked the application. Adobe bought Macromedia, and their sole goal has been to integrate Dreamweaver and Fireworks into their product line without regard for the customer or quality.

Worse, Adobe's customer service and technical support are Byzantine and adversarial, as good as hostile. Don't worry, because it takes hours to get through to someone. Even longer when your calls get dropped.

I was a great supporter of GoLive. When GoLive became unsupported, i naturaly tried to work with Dreamweaver. There is nothing common between both: GoLive was much more "mac like" than Dreamweaver is. Despite a lot of efforts and goodwill, i have never been able to feel comfortable with DreamWeaver. I did try it three times, removing it each time after a month, then downloading it again saying to myself "this cannot be possible, you MUST work with this". Furthermore, CS4 was crashing on me regularely. So, no way! i gave up. I now work with CODA and WebDNA.

Amazing how Adobe made Dreamweaver CS3 9.0 so perfect, fast and bug-free that there was never an update for 9.0 and they are now about to release CS4. : /

Adobe is really starting to take us for granted. I'm looking at alternatives harder and harder and will jump ship at this rate.
