Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 CommentaryStill Loyal After All These Years - Version: 10.0, 6/29/2009 11:08AM PST

Why the devil can't Adobe use Apple's UI conventions? Stop fighting with Apple and her customers. No your market. I've been using Dreamweaver since the early days of Macromedia and have always liked the application. Adobe bought Macromedia, and their sole goal has been to integrate Dreamweaver and Fireworks into their product line without regard for the customer or quality.

Worse, Adobe's customer service and technical support are Byzantine and adversarial, as good as hostile. Don't worry, because it takes hours to get through to someone. Even longer when your calls get dropped.

I was a great supporter of GoLive. When GoLive became unsupported, i naturaly tried to work with Dreamweaver. There is nothing common between both: GoLive was much more "mac like" than Dreamweaver is. Despite a lot of efforts and goodwill, i have never been able to feel comfortable with DreamWeaver. I did try it three times, removing it each time after a month, then downloading it again saying to myself "this cannot be possible, you MUST work with this". Furthermore, CS4 was crashing on me regularely. So, no way! i gave up. I now work with CODA and WebDNA.

Amazing how Adobe made Dreamweaver CS3 9.0 so perfect, fast and bug-free that there was never an update for 9.0 and they are now about to release CS4. : /

Adobe is really starting to take us for granted. I'm looking at alternatives harder and harder and will jump ship at this rate.

Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 Usage TipDownload link for 8.0.2 - Version: 8.0.2, 9/5/2008 12:29AM PST

It took me a while to find the 8.0.2 updater as Adobe try to make you to download the CS3 trial instead, so here it is for all you latecomers: http://www.adobe.com/support/dreamweaver/downloads_updaters.html#dw8

Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 ReviewUnsatisfactory - Version: 8.0.2, 2/1/2007 05:12PM PST

A product from one of the most reputable - or so you should think - comapnies in the design business, Dreamweaver has been in an unacceptable state for the Mac for a long time.

It is RIDICULOUSLY slow at editing simple text in a webpage. Deleting, selecting, and rearrageing text chuncks can sometimes bring the app to a halt for 10-15 seconds, and ti has been like this for years! I've been using the app since version 3, and it has been this bad since version 4, at least!

It is clearly not optimized for teh new Intel Macs. Even though these new macs are at least 4 times faster than the old Macs i used Dreamweaver on, it STILL hangs for 20-25 secons when i first start it up,a nd it still is slow as a snail for common simple text manipulation.

I'm only *barely* recommending this app, because it's WYSIWYG features are the best there are in the world of WYSIWYG HTML editors.

Adobe (formerly Macromedia) should know that their coding and maintenance of this application is VERY CLEARLY UNACCEPTABLE! When you shell out loads of cash, you expect much more than this.

Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 ReviewIt's better than MX, but ... - Version: 8.0.2, 8/7/2006 11:24PM PST

I've only been using Dreamweaver 8 for about a week now. When I first launched it after installing I thought initially that little had changed, but having used it for a while now there are some definite improvements. I'm a very very big fan of the tabbed interface - it's a major improvement over MX. I prefer to handcode CSS so haven't even looked at the visual interface there as yet.

But ... like so many others who have left feedback, I have to say that it's a ridiculously slow piece of software - it's by far the worst app that I run in that regard. After just a week I'm already wondering how many years of my life are going to be wasted by watching the beach ball spinning away simply because I want to flick from another app back to Dreamweaver or go from one Dreamweaver tab to another.

To be honest, I had the same degree of slowness in MX. It was unacceptable then and continues to be so. I dread to think how bad it was before the most recent upgrade which claimed to improve performance for OS X!

This should be a really urgent issue for Adobe to address - people who pay good money for this software deserve a lot better for their investment.

I want to edit CSS with WYSIWYG interface. Right now CSS totally falls apart graphically in DW8. I don't want to hand-code CSS anymore. Please rec this post if you want Adobe to haul butt with graphical CSS support in DW.

Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 ReviewFTP is gone on my G5 - Version: 8.0.2, 7/3/2006 08:22AM PST

I upgraded some time ago from MX2004 to DW8. The FTP capabilties on my G5 are gone...I get all kinds of FTP error notices.
I finally gave up and just upload with Transmit. Yes, it is an extra step, but I'm so used to it now that I just automatically open both.

As far as DW8, other than the FTP thing (which I don't know if I can pin on DW8 anyway, as I can't seem to upload in MX2004 from my G5 anymore either, but my G4 will work with both!), it seems to be ok...again, I'm not connecting to my remote folders, so there's not a sync-slowdown going on. I like the extra features and it's never crashed, so I guess you can say I'm ok with it.

Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 ReviewWarning! Kills all database apps - Version: 8.0.2, 6/19/2006 11:09AM PST

This is the Mac update, which I think may be buggier than the PC version.

1. Take a page with a simple "insert record" database behaviour and double click the behaviour, then clost it. DW rewrites all the code to it's new version which is fine and looks fine, until you click save. Then all the line breaks in the new code are removed and the page is screwed up.

2. You can no longer use a "file field" form element in an insert record behaviour. It jsut doesn;t work anymore. So forget about uploading files with Pure ASP Upload or similar. All other fields like, text, checkboxes, radio buttons etc are fine but the file field just stops the insert.

Solution back to 8.01 until 8.03 (for Mac) comes out !

Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 ReviewToo slow - Version: 8.0.2, 6/8/2006 12:10AM PST

As others have noted, this is the slowest version of Dreamweaver yet. File sync is unusable as it takes several minutes for even small folders.
