Product Description:

Drag and drop files (PDF, JPG, GIF, PICT, etc.) to eDocuments in order to import and browse all of your paper documents that you scan into your computer. Buy a scanner, scan everything, burn the files to disk, and use eDocuments to browse them.

eDocuments is designed to allow you to browse your documents with ease, focusing on the important information - like the date of the document. When you browse through your documents, all of the attributes will remain intact - scroll bars, maginification, etc.

Scanning:

I would recommend a scan quality of 150 dots per inch: first for the speed of the scan, and second for the quality of the image.

Encryption:

When creating backups of your documents, you might want to use an encryption program like Crypt. You can download Crypt at the following web address.

What's new in this version:

  • Recommendation: take your current folders full of scanned images and just drop them on eDocuments' main window in order to build your library quickly.
  • Drag and drop between folders.
  • Drawer window support for folders.
  • Select all.

eDocuments ReviewOverall not a bad product offering... - Version: 1.7, 7/9/2004 02:19AM PST

Agreed that the product isn't so refined, but overall the functionality is there. I don't see any other products out there that are attempting to make life easier for people who want to store their documents electronically. Two thumbs up just for the attempt.

One note on the scroll bars, it looks like the developer is trying to design them to be different than normal. He says it above. I'm running 866 Mhz and I don't have any problem with the speed.

eDocuments ReviewPrimitive and slow - Version: 1.7, 7/8/2004 08:37PM PST

The application is very rudimentary. It has the look and feel of a student programming project or a quick demo that you might toss together in a hurry.

It isn't well suited to production use. It doesn't scale well to handle hundreds or thousands of documents.

In fact, it's awkward and slow even with three tiny sample documents and a 1.4GHz processor.

The scroll bars sometimes don't work in the customary way, and the scroll wheel never does.
