SilverFast DCPro STUDIO is a high-end Digital Camera Software, that has been designed specially for the needs of photographers. It combines the unlimited functionality of SilverFastAi with the unique Virtual Light Table. The light table is a workbase that no photographer wants to miss, who likes to organize, manage and resume images in an easy way. Beside the ingenious magnifying functionality, the user profits also via Presets adjustable Graphical User Interface (GUI), the colour temperature and the Red-Eye-Correction. SilverFast DCPro supports Raw Data Format of professional Digital Cameras e.g: Canon, Minolta, Nikon, Olympus, Kodak, Fuji and Sigma. The conversion of the raw data format takes place as a time-saving background process and the result is being stored automatically. Hence, the user can re-open already converted files without time loss.

  • Apply correct white balance to the FullScreen-Preview process, such that its result is identical to the thumbnails of the SilverFast preview.
  • Speed up whitebalance for the FullScreen-Preview with AltiVec support.

  • When generating thumbnails from a converted RAW file, it will now get generated using the 16bit data (applying the white balance and gamma to the 16bit data and afterwards converting to 8bit instead of applying the corrections to the 8bit data), resulting in better quality.
  • Automatic Highlight & Shadow Point for Full Screen Previews and a Gamma Curve to lighten up Midtones. Makes VLT Fullscreen Previews look (even) better, increases Saturation, forces Blackpoint and decreases Gamma.
  • DC Pro: Improved RAW conversion from Kodak 14n files resulting in higher quality images due to improved Whitebalance implementation. When switching from VLT to Silverfast back and forth the dpi setttings could not be selected--> fixed.
  • Switching in Fullscreenpreview between Images in Album could lead to corrupted Preview. This dialog has been replaced with a blue progress bar and the preview works now.
  • Enhanced Printdialog: This feature is now available in all Silverfast Versions that contain the VLT.
  • Increased Fullscreen performance and color accuracy for RAW file images.
  • Default internal workspace profile is now AdobeRGB(1998) for all Silverfast versions.

This is my favourite digital camera app now! After working successfully with DC-VLT I upgraded to DCPro STUDIO to be able to use the text feature with the enhanced printing and this allows me exporting a whole set of images with text into a PDF. Position, scale, crop and rotate pictures direcly on the printing preview page is marvellous!
DCPro STUDIO's AACO is so powerful with my high contrast raw CRW Canon pictures so that now I can easily adjust the extreme shadows without influencing the midtones and highlights, after having set the colours right.
The JobManager with MultiJob functionality cuts my production tim down to minimum, so I can work through hundreds of pictures quickly!

Silverfast was not intended as a replacement for Photoshop and /or it´s Raw Import. Photoshop CS does a good Job in importing RAW-files into its own app for the usually necessary post-production retouching, even though the automatically used filters turning the RAW files into non-RAW files before conversion are a real downside.
Silverfast is a workflow / data management tool for the professional digital photographer who likes to transfer his analogue habits into his digital workflow --> save images from i.e. CF-card directly into album, sort by topic, theme or location via lightable, preview full resolution with one click and check on focus etc. Many of them appreciate the functionality to edit, process and convert whole sets of images in realtime with the Jobmanager. Another highlight is the IT8 calibration set, which is included in the regular price which turns Silverfast into a real bargain compared to standard ICC-Profiling software.
I know a few professional photog´s who prefer to spend their time shooting pictures rather than managing their digital workflow.
