iVolume Troubleshooting ReportIpods through Sounds Docks - Version: 2.5.3, 10/17/2009 12:20AM PST

Can anyone tell me if the iPod's Sound Check actually does anything when you play an iPod through a sound dock/bottom connector?

To me it appears sound check (and iVol) only come into operation via the headphone socket.

Thanx

iVolume ReviewNow compatible w Snow Leopard & iTunes 9 & better than ever - Version: 3.5, 9/25/2009 12:02AM PST

This is the best app I've so far found for implementing the Replay Gain volume adjustment, which is far and away the best method of giving all your music tracks the same subjective volume adjustment. It doesn't mess with the internal dynamics of the track, but adjusts the overall volume of each track to match all your other tracks. This makes for much better sounding compilation and mixes. I mean, much much better. It's amazing what a difference this makes when listening. Absolutely indispensable. So good, in fact, that I actually shelled out the bucks to buy iVolume, which I rarely do, skinflint that I am.

iVolume CommentaryVersion Jump from 3.1.5 to 3.5? - Version: 3.5, 9/17/2009 08:33PM PST

Seems to be the trend today with the advent of Snow Leopard that developers' are jumping their version numbers several notches. First, it was Path Finder (5.1.6 to 5.5.0) and now iVolume. I guess they want to get to the upgrade paths quicker that usual?

iVolume ReviewDo not upgrade from version 2! - Version: 3.1.5, 8/23/2009 09:02AM PST

The developer has ruined a sweet little utility and made it much more awkward to use.

First of all, yes, it does what it's supposed to: it adjusts the volume much better than the built-in iTunes facility.

Now about workflow. How do you use this program? You add some tracks to iTunes, you tell it to adjust the volume. Since I never shut off my computer, iVolume used to be always open, and it would just work: select tracks, adjust. Beautiful. In version 3 that doesn't work anymore: for some bizarre reason, iVolume wants to scan your whole iTunes library, which can take minutes if you have a large library. So you'd just leave it open? Well, for some other bizarre reason it can no longer detect selected tracks in iTunes if they were not part of the scan.

This means that I have to shut down the program and restart it whenever I want to adjust tracks. Silly. There is not even a button that says "rescan library".

The user interface has also been made unnecessarily complicated, with useless options in full view, and the most used commands hidden in submenus.

Unfortunately I did not keep a copy of iVol 2, and the developer is not responding to my request for a download link. Bummer.

I think maybe something with 8.1 is making iVolume unhappy.

I agree with the other comments that the new version is useless for me. You need to allow selection by playlist.

While you're getting that sorted out, please post the old version so we can go back to what was a very useful tool.
