Workspaces ReviewWorkspaces vs. Desktop Manager 0.3.4 - Version: 1.0.2, 12/10/2003 09:17AM PST

Workspaces = WS, Desktop Manager = DM

Number of Desktops:
WS: 4
DM: Unlimited. Well, it depends on how many hot keys you can remember or on how much space you have spare in your menu bar, respectively ;)

Cost:
DM is free!

Speed:
With Animation turned off, WS is almost as fast as DM. If you switch to another Desktop in DM, it is "just there", without any delay!

Stability:
WS: App crashed when I closed Safari and then re-opened it on another Desktop, with Feature '' checked.
DM: No crash yet! VERY stable for an alpha release.

Features:
WS: + can assign applications to desktops.
DM: - no way to get an app to another desktop. Well, why would you want to, all you have to do is to open your apps once on the right desktop..

Conclusion:
WS is a good app! But..
I prefer DM over WS because its free, has more than 4 desks, and doesn't crash. I have yet to see if DM is ideal for my workflow, but In my opinion its better.

Workspaces CommentaryVery nice - Version: 1.0.2, 11/6/2003 09:12AM PST

I agree with others - it's very clean, and faster than the others I've tested. I also agree that the 4-page limit is something to work on. Rather than even *have* a limit, let the user have as many as his machine can support (I have a whopping 12 on my Xwindow box). I've not seen the drawer issue as mentioned below - apps appear just as I've left them. All in all, I'm skipping this weeks sodas to save up the $15

Workspaces Troubleshooting ReportOne small bug is drawers - Version: 1.0.2, 10/12/2003 12:34PM PST

kestrelx_dotmac
Applications with drawers seem to have lots of problems with them disappearing and not reappearing (Mail, Poisoned...)

Otherwise a great app
